Oil temp gauge sensor location

Hey so I have a Drift oil temp gauge that's pretty much all wired up I just need to find a location to put the sensor. Just wanted to check to see if anyone else has done this and has found a good location for it.

Here's a pictures of the sensor to give you an idea

I know Reddtarga has tried a few different locations. If you search you might find it.
If not im sure he will post in here.

I have tried 3 different locations.
Sump plug adaptor, remote oil filter mount, and lastly I fitted it in a sandwich plate under the oil filter, which I prefer since it measures the oil just before it enters the motor.

The easiest mount is in a sump plug adaptor, however I found it read about 10 degrees centigrade lower than in a sandwich plate or the remote filter mount, probably because of cooling air across it.
Pics show a sump plug adaptor, and a Twos'rus sand plate.

Another possibility is to remove the sump and get a socket fitted, but the location would be tricky. It would need a spot that doesn't foul anything inside, and be out of the breeze.

BTW, the spot at the top of the head is fine for a pressure sender, but no good for a temp sender that needs to be in circulating oil.

If you have a GEN 3 OR above you can put them here as i have done , but i would definitely connect a hose for the Oil Pressure unit and remote mount the sender to the chassis away from heat or vibration, which they dont like

That twos r us sandwich plate looks like the best idea. (I'd like to keep my magnetic oil drain plug) And if I decide to get a oil pressure gauge then I can use the same spot for that as well.
Thanks heaps for that, I tried finding info on it but could only find stuff about the actual gauges and I searched through more than a dozen pages of your posts and couldn't find anything I'm glad you posted.

And this is for a gen 2 engine so that other idea wouldn't work. Thanks anyways though.

Just wanted to check to see people's experiences with different brand oil filter adapter plates. The twos r us is $82 (shipping costs more than the item itself) vs eBay for about $60
Is there much of a quality difference? The only thing I can think of if that the cheaper one may not fit as well and may leak?
    Any feedback would be great.
    Thanks

I'd suggest go with the TwosRUs item purely because it's been a tried and tested item. You definitely do not want a leak. May be worth doing a small buy with someone else or getting some other stuff to help absorb the shipping costs.

Yeah I noticed if I added more things to the shipping cart the shipping price only went up a little bit. Maybe I'll post a thread to see of anyone else needs anything from them

    Thanks

You mentioned your car is a gen2.
    Turbo or NA?
Some sandwich plates are thicker than others.
While gen2 NA's have no problems, if your car is a gen 2 turbo, you may not be able to fit your oil filter on over a sandwich plate.
Gen3  turbo's have no clearance problems.

    Re oil pressure sender locations:
On most sandwich plates the senders are located pre-filter, and because of the resistance in the filter they will read higher than if a pressure sender is located at the top of the head (where the stock warning light sender is) that shows the actual pressure inside the motor.
On my car I noted about a 10 psi  difference between the 2 locations across the rev range.

It's a gen 2 turbo. So your thinking it might not work with my car? If I understand correctly, because the filter doesn't have enough clearance with the plate being too thick?
I'll check tonight to see how much clearance I have and compare to the thickness of the plate.

Ok if I ever get an oil pressure gauge I won't use that location then.
