Righto, not sure if this is a good thing to post or if it will just stirr up **** (I hope not)... But there was a bit of talk during the presentation on how the points were allocated. I think the issue was the points were given by overall placings in each session, instead of by class (IIRC, the Timing guys couldn't allocate the points into the classes??). So this eveningy, I grabbed the natsoft times from the website and started running them through a spreadsheet to work out overall points AND class points. PDF of the data is HERE

Thanks for taking the time to put the spreadsheet together. I really wish i had sorted ths out on the day but it wasnt to be.I can only say it will not happen next year! Unfortunately I can not change anything. At least it shows the poiny system will work when applied correctly. Look like you have a job for MTC 2014!

Since there is plenty of notice, I'll look into putting together a system over the next few months to handle this kind of thing. I only got curious today as I was interested to see if there was going to be any real shuffle of places. The top place changes are Pete and Trav swap places, Evo and Supra knock Derrick, Chris & Alex down a few pegs, Ian ends up overtaking Adrian and I end up going from 4th to joint 3rd with Adrian.

^^ could ruffle a feather or two! Evo and Supra are very different cars to the 1990/94 SWT's. Different category next time please for 'invites', or is it ok if I bring a porsche? MR2 is all about fun on a budget, not cricket for modern and more $$$ cars to whip my flogged but loved 23 year old vehicle! (Embarrassing cricket for me to repeatedly beaten by same vintage SW in n/a form - that was only cos' you had taken your spare wheel out to save weight asimovy, well i'd like to think that was the reason...) I was in awe of the Supra though, nice car - but a very different kettle of fish. evo just fishy.

^ I followed Asimovy through the track as he took Highlanders car for a conservative run, thats when I realised how much of a hack job I had been making of the race line. But first time ever on a track so i was pleased. So as far as the results go, I was the 2nd SW in class, was given the 2nd place trophy - i'm keeping the bloody thing!! But most definitely need more street going MR2's. There's a decent population of them in Sydney and surounds - all this investment in go fast bits need to be put to more use than spinning dynos!!!. I was a bit concerned about rubbing doors with other cars - my car has recently been resprayed and I don't want it damaged - but 99.99% of the others on the track did exactly as the track manager asked by not overtaking on corners and doing the move when the car in front waved them through. So apart from one close call and one rude late closeout as I was approaching an apex myself, there was no issue. The other drivers were switched on enough to see that I was losing it on a corner reacted well and avoided the track numpty facing the wrong way. So no excuse for the other NSW MR2 owners to get in and drive....

I don't mind having cars other than MR2's as long as there isn't too much like what we had but more MR2s is always a good thing ofc. Truth is I think, track goers are a minority in most car clubs and then you take into account the MR2 population. My SW20 is also my daily so I kept a small margin of safety as well hehe but I did try my best

Thanks for posting this up . I was made aware of the difference it made to me in results but just good to see it in print. Was great to get a result like that from a car that had never been driven and was just finished the nght before without any checking /tuning or even a wheel alignment or coilover setting change.

IMO, as cool as it would be going state to state, it does complicate a lot of things and the cost will go up significantly. Wakefield would have to be one of cheapest (if not THE cheapest) tracks to hire and has brilliant facilities (cafe, timing, lockable garages and onsite accommodation). It is also the most centralised track for all states to attend, which makes it fair on the interstate travellers. It has a hill climb, special stage, short circuit and a full circuit, not something other tracks have. And the biggest thing I like about Wakefield, the management are really good, they are flexible and supportive (who else would let us do a photo shoot AFTER hours!). They also run AASA insurance which is cheaper and less anal retentive then anything CAMS approved.

Thanks Arron, Wakefield has offered to do everything it can to make this event a success for the benifit of MR2 enthusiests. This includes rates which cannot b matched. My instrumental input in making the Wakefield 300 the success it is today also has weight in this agreement. Also, the Nationals is the other major meet for MR2's so any more could strain the budgets of many people.
Pete, we wont make the same mistake next year.
