What struts/shocks fit SW20 from other models.

Hello everyone,

I have a 1991 Sw20 Mr2 and the Shocks are gone on the rear. I need new ones to pass regency, and get my car back on the road!

Unfortunately as you all probably new, there aren't all that many stock struts floating around, and as I'm a student, I really can't afford to buy new ones, or coilovers.

What other toyota models (Or any car for that matter) use similar struts that will bolt onto my Sw20 to pass regency?

Thanks c:

    im not good at explaining..
repco make things that make your shocks new again.
    they are called inserts.
a suspension shop can do this for you.. cost you maybe 500 bucks? i dunno.

Ah I see fair enough xD I can get a good condition pair of shocks from a wreckers for $350, it just seems a little steep, that's all.

I see you're from Adelaide. Ride height they got you for?
Having been through the dreaded Regency in the past, I'd say your rear springs have sagged, taking you below the MIN eye brow height (dist centre of wheel to top of wheel arch) of 340 mm
I had to get my springs taken out then sent them to Industrials on Port Rd to get them 're-set' (lengthened). I can't remember if Kings or Lovells make std height replacements. Maybe try Pedders?
Also getting 'stock struts' from wreckers (if you can find any) has its risks, because most are old and sagged also i.e. too low!
I don't think there are any other Toyota struts that'll fit.
    Good luck

Well you could try the ones from wreckers, but I couldn't guarantee that they are high enough.
is it the complete strut assembly?

did regency say what was wrong with the shocks on the rear? is it that they are leaking/not reboundinjg properly or as MRTurbo said too low?

if the shocks aren't leaking/borked then you should just need springs.

if the shocks themselves are stuffed you will need new ones and prob new springs.

I really don't know anything about Shocks, if you could explain I would be very greatful c:

If you have the gland nut type struts, there are inexpensive shock inserts available that will work fine if you have stock springs. Much cheaper than buying complete  new strut/shock units.
If you PM me I can send you an article about the struts used on SW20's, with shock insert options.
Also include you email as it is too big to PM.
