Great news that the problem's solved, but what was the issue it was towed to the mechanic's for?  And what did they do?  You seemed to be implying in your post above that it was towed for the dead battery problem, but now you're saying this was another unrelated problem.  Why even mention it?
 
I GIVE UP !!!!  I should know better, I deal with inconsistent fault descriptions every day.

Sorry mate, maybe didn't explain myself. I got the mechanic to fix an engine problem and i drove the car home and then i took the car out for another run the next day.
When i tried starting the car up after then it wouldn't turn over....hence the new battery.

Hope i clarified things up :)
