Question about timing 3sge engine.

So I am cruising the other day and my car suddenly shuts down. I tried to start it a few times (4 times to be exact) and it wouldnt start. I got a tow truck to take the car home and did my checks on the motor and realized that the timing belt was broken. I replaced the timing belt tried to start the car and it started but it runs like crap. My mechanic told me that I might need a valve job,but I did my research and was told the motor is a non-interferance motor so it shouldnt have done any damage to the head. The only conclusion I could come to is that the timing is way off because the car cuts off and the only way it stays started is if I keep my foot on the gas. Does anyone have a timing chart that I could make reference too?

When I brought my sw20 the cam timing was out by a tooth or two! I did't realize  and just drove it around accepting it's lack of bottom end power. before my 1st track day in the car I had my mechanic replace the belt. He'd told me the cam timing was out but I was beyond belief at how much better the engine performed once corrected. Moral to my story, second guess the cam timing!

Yes it's a non-interference engine (in stock form) & your timing is most likely way off. Common occurence after a belt change.

Maybe remove the top timing cover and check timing gear marks at TDC.

and once the timing belt has been fitted correctly, you will then need to adjust the ignition timing.

bridge TE1 and E1 in the diagnostics box next to the map sensor and check it's firing@ 10btdc with a timing light. adjust the dizzy as required.
