Clear lenses.......
Morning/Evening all, This is my first post by way of an introduction. About 4 years ago I was asked to make clear replacements for the 'Tobelerone' front side repeaters and this is what I came up with..... I then thought of making a rear conversion for the Rev 1/2 Mk2..... I then decided to have a go at the trickier Rev3 I wasn't convinced that this was a complete solution, so I decided to do the triangle corners in clear too... and here's the finished result, the first completed set in the world... All the lenses are individually hand made by myself and are exact copies in every detail of the originals. I hope you like them and any comments or questions welcome.

Wow, awesome work!! They look great. The rears definitely need the triangular bits matching, looks a bit odd otherwise. TBH I dont mind the stock gen3 rears, the ambers look very dark and dont really stick out (esp on dark coloured cars), looks all red(ish) and uniform. But these certainly give it a modern twist, and unique too!! Would be cool to do the red clear too (and red globes obviously) on a white car for that clean look. Clear toblerones are a no brainer with front clear corners, completes it. How the hell do you make these? Cheers

Hi artymr2, Thanks for the feedback. For those who like the smoked look, I also tinted this set of Tobes to match these aftermarket fronts for an Aussie customer... Regards the rears, I think the amber delete works on all colours especially turquoise, but the clear triangles are the finishing touch for a subtle update. Not sure about all clear rears - personally I think you need a bit of red for contrast, but also making the main section in clear would be too expensive for the tiny market. I make a mould in silicone rubber from the original and then I cast with an industrial clear polyurethane resin. The borders are masked and sprayed with a smoke tint - simples

So I think the big question is, do you plan to make and sell some :) ? I just installed some smoked fronts and would love a set of smoked Tobelerone's to complete it.

All the above lenses are available to order, lead time 3-4 days. The Tobes I tint spray on the inside which ensures a perfect gloss outer and a scratch proof finish. I have also written illustrated guides for fitting of all lenses which I can submit if of interest

I would love to have your skill set. I would attempt to modernise the tail light to incorporate leds like the aftermarket S15/200SX. The result would be similar to below:

Still cant get over how "factory" the finish/workmanship looks, well done!! Out of curiosity, eg for the rear tail lights, do you just supply the clear lens and the customer removes the amber, glues in the clear? I reckon a remake with LEDS in the gen 3, in the slightly cropped circular shapes would complete the ultra modern look. Cheers

Thanks for the compliments guys, it's taken much practice to perfect pieces like these. I don't think of them as modifications, rather ,subtle styling enhancements. The look I try to achieve is what could have a last model/run out option fitted at the factory as opposed to an aftermarket item. BTW... I dislike 'Lexus' stylee crystal clear type units. I supply the lenses only which will fit to your existing backing parts/cluster....... The rear clusters have to be carefully oven heated to allow extraction of the amber lens, I have a full illustrated guide to explain, but it's a large Word.doc, 9Mb, which I need to convert to PDF or similar. I have done this many times with a wide range of units - here's a pic of a Supra Mk3 unit undergoing separation.... Sorry I don't have any pics of the Rev 3 raers and clear triangles on the car, but I'm hoping to in the next week or so, courtesy of my friend who owns the white turbo in my first post. Here's another one I've done for the Esprit V.8/turbo...... Here's a question for you.......which Toyota were these rear clusters first used on?
