QLD Downshift Meet 29/4
Ddubtoille and I went along to the Downshift Meet on Sunday to ensure that the MR2 was properly represented amongst the huge number of cars that attended. I didn't actually count the cars but I have to say that it felt like 2000.
These events are unusual in that they are not really a "car show" in what has been the traditional way of doing things. This one as described to me by Ddubtoille was more a "jdm/downshift" meet, and if you don't know the story behind all this check out the video link.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pB2KncIKfM&feature=youtube_gdata_player Although there were obviously car clubs at the meet it wasn't in a Datto's here, Honda's there, Skylines down the back type of environment, and all the vibes were extremely positive. Ddubtoille and I had the frunks, trunks and engines open, which received some very strange looks, and a couple of questions to Ddubtoille about did the battery in the front mean it was an electric car? I was actually asked if I had trailered mine there as the engine was obviously missing.
All of this was done in good fun, and there were no burnouts, loud music or angst about riceburners versus V8's (of which there were a few, including a 1973 Mercedes sedan in great condition). All in all it was about bring what you have no matter what condition its in, and it was good fun. A two dollar admission fee was charged to pay for the hire of the place (a local showground), and not a blue uniform in sight, largely because there didn't need to be.
Hope you enjoy the pictures. Remember, these meets are in the spirit of everyone who loves cars just getting together and having fun so please comment accordingly. The red SW belongs to Ddubtoille and NO, the shiny SW is not mine.
