timing belt install

Hello,

Im trying to follow the BGB as much as humanly possible for the timing belt install on the 3sgte gen 2. My problem is that after you install the crank pulley, and set the cam gears with the upper marks and set the crank pulley to tdc,  you have to give the belt tension as you temporarily install the tensioner, and then you rotate the crank to atdc 60 degrees and torque down the tensioner with a feeler gauge in between. The problem is I find it difficult keeping the timing the same, as I am using a torque wrench on the idler pulley and the crank pulley shifts of the position as it looses slack and then the cam gears start moving as the crank turns but by this point the timing is lost. When I turn the crank to get to ATDC 60 degrees without the tensioner set do I keep holding tension on the idler pulley, or can I just ignore ATDC 60 degrees and do everything such as tigtening the tensioner bolts and releasing the grenade pin when the crank is at TDC and the cam marks are aligned. Is the BGB the best method or can anyone recommend anything that is better than doing it the BGB way?

No help here? Maybe you have it sorted by now..
First off your applying only 13 in/lbs (from memory?) to the tensioner bearing which is basically enough to remove the slack in the timing belt, not rotate the crank or cam pulleys. Also once you have the belt installed correctly and aligned correctly before tensioning, any change in the position of the crank pulley isn't going to effect timing unless you allow the belt to jump a tooth.

I usually do it this way:
Align the crank TDC and cam pulley's.
From the crank, fit the belt with the hyd. tensioner removed, starting with the exhaust pulley, which you need to rotate clockwise against spring tension to align correctly. Hold it in place with a bull-dog clip if you like, and temporily fit the lower cover to hold the belt in place on the crank pulley.
Align the cam pulley without any slack, and then install the hyd. tensioner and lock in place temporily, with any slack in the belt removed.
Turn the engine over twice, remove the lower cover, and check your alignment.
Turn the engine to 60deg BTDC, not 60deg ATDC (BGB is wrong) apply recommended tension to the tensioner bearing and set the clearance on the hyd. tensioner as required.
Turn the engine over twice more and check the alignment and clearance, pull the pin...done.

Hmmm had trouble logging in? found it needs advertisements enabled in the firewall lol.
Yup, still breathing alcohol fumes. Tried the United 100 quite a few times, and it runs on a perf ULP98 tune without any problems. and improved driveability Also added 20% bio-flex to it and ran on a 30%E tune, again with no issues.  If it becomes more widespread I'd tune for it definitely. tho no way am I going to drop my 30%E tune lol.
