Blow off valve or not?
Opening up a corn of worms.... I have read the almost religious arguments on the US forums. I find the topic very interesting, any turbo guys here that have run without any bov/bpv?

Just run with the stock bpv. get a bov if you want the sound. My last car didn't have a BOV and the turbo was fine, although the seals were on the way out (99,000kms). I would at least run the stock bpv or a plumb back bov, just to be safe.

I have std bov and my matte has aftermarket, no difference in power at all If you like noise all the time, go for it. I think catch too much attention from other and cops and if you have anything that can be defected it will be. cheers Pan

Its gotta be there for a reason, if a car company can scrimp on something and save money they will. I wouldn't be game to try but, like you said, heaps do.

i blanked mine off when my car was first imported as no one could lend me a factory bov at the time. Result? Lost momentum between gear changes and reversion sometimes buggering up the airflow meter. There are no benefits with NOT running one. You must remember that we have very short inlet tracts too, so our engines will have reversion well before other people with front mount intercoolers etc on their supra/skyline/wrx etc.

Yes there is a reason -Its there to prevent compressor stall, so best to leave it alone.

What reason do you have to consider removing it?

Not saying im for it, just found it a interesting argument and wouldn't mind hearing from anyone here who has tried it. In essence, pros - possible improvement in response, pipes stay pressurised during gear change - no pssssht sound, i tried to shut mine up by recirculating it, but it is still loud (in cabin) with the aftermarket intake Supposedly minimal additional wear to turbo, forces insignificant compared to normal operation. The one point that is often recited is the lack of one on the st185 celica from factory, and its really only to reduce noise rather than protect the turbo... Cons, - wohohoho sound instead ;p - i cant see how it wouldnt cause some additional stress on turbo http://www.mr2oc.com/show...p=20&highlight=bov http://www.mr2oc.com/show...p=20&highlight=bov http://www.mr2oc.com/show...7587&highlight=bov
