2012 Club Run Calendar Update

From The President's Desk:

The Run Manager and I last week had the opportunity to meet with the NSW Branch Committee in Sydney to discuss the proposed combined Queensland and New South Wales Run to Coffs Harbour later this year.

The welcome given to us by the NSW Committee was great and I'd like to personally thank Darius and his Committee for their hospitality and friendship.

On the original Run Calendar we had listed the Run to Coffs Harbour for the first Queen's Birthday Weekend in June (there are two "Queen's Birthday" holidays in Queensland this year as we change to the new holiday in October). However, we have since found out that the Wintersun Festival, a 1950's style rock and roll get-together, is moving to Coffs Harbour this year for the Queen's Birthday in June. We contacted the festival organisers to find out the details, but it turns out that apart from Scz all of us are much too young to enter the dance-offs, street processions, and wearing Brylcreem in our hair (google Brylcreem if you don't know what it is).

The other restrictions are that most of the motels are booked out in June and our cars can't go in the street events because they are older than 1962. Most of Coffs and surrounding area will effectively be shut down for Wintersun, and while Scz would have enjoyed the hooped skirts and winkle-pickers (ggogle these as well) the opportunity to drive around won't be there.

We have now decided to alter the Run Calendar and have the weekend on the Queen's Birthday Weekend in October (Sat 29 September to Monday 1 Oct). This has been discussed with Darius and the NSW Committee, and they are going to immediately seek expressions of interest from their members so that accommodation can be confirmed. We have found a great place to stay that will give us a top rate for the two days plus help with bar-b-ques, etc; and there are some tremendous routes we can travel over. The Run Manager has already started planning for this and we have been given a heap of very recent commercial maps of the area to help out.

The general idea will be to travel down to Coffs on Saturday morning, stay two nights, and return home on the Monday. This will be a tremendous opportunity to get together with people from NSW and also drive on some top roads.

I am going to start a separate thread for Coffs Harbour so look out for this soon and start saving your money for what should be a great MR2 get-away
