bigger cam

I converted to shim under bucket and now I want bigger cams... The motor is apart again anyway so I thought this would be my last chance to choose a different profile.

Currently its 227 at 50 thou with 9.4mm of lift. so an advertised (by crow cams) to be 270 degrees in/ex.
Motor has forged bottom end and balanced. Really high compression also. The head is ported and has already got heavier valve springs (BC)

I was looking at 240-250 at 50 thou and around the 10mm lift mark. To make it sound like this ae86 with 3sge http://www.billzilla.org/ae86.zip

What are you're thoughts? (looks at just_ace)

as you found it driveable with the cams before and your happy to potentially loose some bottom end, i see no reason not to go more wild.

i have a feeling that hilift cams can potentially require some removal of the casting in the head of gen2, but not sure at what lift this is required.

I was thinking about that also. they are pretty close as it is. But I want a cam that big. With my current cam it picked up from idle. I'm willing to sacrifice some bottomend.

The Kelford looks like the right option. You should change it to shimless bucket too for safety sake.
I have seen a 20v cam which is 310 duration but that would be a little over the top for your application.
Are you looking at upgrading your gearset to suit the new cam profiles?
There was a rally car owner who did a cleaver conversion to his gearbox. Changed 2nd for first, used some other gear for 2nd then had a gear made up to fill the void between 2nd and 4th to create a close ratio box for under $1500. Just a thought..

That does sound very clever. But I really dont want my gearbox pulled apart again, wish I had thought of it when I had the quaife put in their last year. I am seriously considering a cam between 280-290 though not as high as 310.

The toda cams for the 3s dont seem to go over 10.5lift unlike the kelfords. I wonder why that is as they still have duration up to 310...

And no dont look at the cams the have for the sxe10, theyre for the blacktop beams and wont work.

I would still get crow to make the cams. I got a really good deal last time.
