MR2 owner again... unfortunately...

Thought i'd post up a few pics and show the car I purchased recently.

Some of you may remember it as I found it through the forum.

When driving it home the clutch was slipping so i knew i was up for a clutch from day dot, have since found out the engine has several oil leaks (rather than just the rocker cover as I originally thought)- I really need to invest in a hoist!.

Mechanically speaking, its a piece of crap, needs everything done, looking into my options at present after engine shat itself today (done a 'big end' im pretty sure but had no time to invest in diagnosing as i was late for work by the time i had a towie come get me 20kms from Dubbo and return the car to my mums), I have a fair bit of new gear ready to go in it (new exedy sports tuff clutch, Berk Down pipe, genuine toyota gaskets, OEM water pump, OEM exhaust gaskets etc) but for the time being the car is stuck out in Dubbo, so hopefully I can get stuck into it on my next break (november) once i can get the car home to Newcastle, but i'll ring around a few shops in dubbo tomorrow to discuss.

if anyone hears of a decent engine that is going for a good price feel free to drop me a line, as I think it would be cheaper for me to buy an entire engine and swap all of these brand new parts I have just bought into it rather than rebuild this one. Or if anyone has any good advice on rebuilding my old engine i'd be all ears on the subject. I originally bought this to be a cheap car I could enjoy and just maintain like my old MR2, but its looking rather expensive at this rate, I think it works out if I can get out of these additional repairs for around $3,000 and throw in what I have already spent which is about $2,000 (inc tyres but I knew it needed them upfront)  then this car is costing me approx $5.26 per kilometre not including purchase price, fuel or servicing haha. so If I keep going at this rate, by xmas i'll be kicking myself i didn't buy a lotus elise! haha.

once it is running nicely I hope to participate in some meets when im home (which is very rarely as I tend to come home for one week every 2 months unless im in between projects).

Cheers.

My baby has cost me more that I had anticipated when I purchased her 12 months ago, but I'm still glad that I now own an MR2.  She recently gave me a bit of grief, but hay that's what happens.

Let me know when you're in Newy & I'm sure some of us might be able to tee up a meet or drive.

    Cheers.

Certainly is a 'pretty' car, I'm sure once you sort the mechanicals out it'll be a nice car to get around in.

Well, just had a quote from the tow truck mob in Dubvegas, they can get it to Newcastle next week for around $600... majority of the parts are in the boot, so might just keep buying parts and get it done in Dubbo so I have my November break to myself (just means I fix the boat rather than the MR2 either way im working).

so will hopefully have more of an idea about what the problem is exactly by tomorrow arvo as I rang a mechanic in Dubbo who is pretty keen to get it in and take a look. I did have a great mechanic in Dubbo who done all my work to my last MR2 but he has since left town, Typical of my luck though!.

Hoping the noise is in the top end rather than a big end, fingers crossed for now.

beautiful thing to be stuck at work every day for a month or so. have to drive round in a hilux all week so don't need my car. maybe this mechanic can get it sorted by the time I knock off in November and then I can drive it home... touch wood nothing else goes bang on it haha.
