Finally, progress - '88 AW11 from scratch...
Ok so ages ago I had a thread but it seems to have disappeared (probably because it's been over a year since I've worked on the car). I won't bore you with a repost of that as chances are I've redone it already (as I'm a perfectionist), this is one to document the stuff I am currently doing. As we stand with the front end (starting from there): *'88 NA AW11, stripped back to the chassis. *Whiteline Sway Bars, custom alloy end links (spherical bushings, I also have a set with urethane bushings if I want to go that route) *AMR Engineering Coilovers (ordered but not expecting any time soon), custom rear camber plates * ST184 front calipers (ready to be cleaned, ceramic coated and rebuilt) *ZZE123 rotors (to pick up and see how they'll fit) *hubs/steering knuckles are split, hubs are getting machined for a 55mm centre bore (machine 1mm off, add a 1mm spacer), steering knuckles are getting cleaned and ceramic coated *T3 RCA's (post) *Goodridge stainless brake lines (post) *new lower ball joints *urethane bushings all around *control arms/caster arms cleaned and ceramic coated To be continued.

First project: get hubs machined and centre bore sorted, then see how the calipers and rotors sit (I'm thinking hub spacers will have to be made) I'll see if I have a chance to do it on this weekend. I won't get pics till I've got them all pretty :)

I am horrible at remembering to take photos while I'm working on stuff :p Essentially all my stuff is either getting cleaned/coated, machined or in the post - all I have here now is some dirty old ST184 calipers! Once I get the hub/knuckles back (was meant to be done Thursday afternoon, wasn't done as of lunch today) I guess I'll take some before/after pics. After some measuring it looks like spacers won't have to be made hopefully, I'm going to discuss with my engineer friend what way he thinks would be easiest/safest (legality really isn't on my list of important things :p) to move the calipers 2mm inboard to suit the different height on the new rotors. I can however give you some pics of stuff I've already done (and have either sold or given away to friends to use on their cars). Exhaust was sold a while ago to a member on here who never came to pick it up - I've sent him a few emails and no reply so I'll just keep it here till I hear from him I guess. Extractors (that weren't finished at the time of the photo obviously) are on a mates AE82 track car (and work quite well from what I hear). All I have left is the catch can and the cam covers.

i like the look of this rebuild already!! honestly, the amount of effort that goes into a rebuild, you should take some pics on the way so we can all appreciate!!

Not much progress till I get bits back, picked up ball joints and wheel bearings today. EDIT: Also retarred the front..uhh...where the suspension bits go? My brain is still slightly asleep. Made a fair bit of a mess but it looks much better now.

New on the left, old on the right. You can see the increase in piston size - 30% increase in rotor volume, 22% increase in rotor surface area and 26% increase in clamping force. Looks completely factory ;)

Made them to suit a mild-cammed bigport, they are now ceramic coated and on an AE82 track car. Wish I kept them so I could make a jig to make some more - I think I paid a total of $80 all up for the materials for the extractors, exhaust and muffler and sold them for about a grand all up :p

Tiny update: all gear is off getting machined. Can't recommend Craig @ Extreme Custom Engineering enough, he's even going to push it out ASAP as I will be going away for work quite soon. There is, seriously, nothing this guy can't do - from roll cages, any machining work, fabrication, you name it.

Ergh, so. Went to pick my calipers up from Craig - after machining he realised (and I hadn't) that the two calipers I got are from two different cars (although they are almost identical). My guess is an early and a late ST184 (using two different sizes rotors). Huge freaking pain in the arse, I have to identify which is the correct caliper, find the matching other half and then pay for it to be machined properly. Good news - SW20 22V calipers turned up for the rear, and the hubs he machined for me turned out beautifully. I am juggling a -lot- of stuff at once so the rate of progress may have to be slowed down a tad. I'm meant to be heading 2600km north in two weeks time for up to three months, so it's pretty hard to work on a car while I'm there :p

Super late update bought on by the last business I was working for going bankrupt and me being left without a job :( Removed the 4AGE/C52 yesterday (without any sort of hoist, mind you), engine has been separated and sold already and just need to get rid of the gearbox now. Looking down a different power route now, somewhat more displacement and torque ;) Still have the 300rwhp goal which should be achievable without many engine mods.
