2 Different Sized BrakePads for the Same Year MR2?

Hi guys,

I'm just after some brake pads atm and a quick call around I've been informed that there were actually two different types of brake pads for the early model MR2 (89-91 i'm assuming).

Just wanted to ask whether anyone with a 1990 Australian delivered MR2 has any clues as to which ones they are. One is 120 mm and the other is 140 mm. This is for EBC redstuff btw.

Cheers guys!

I believe the early SW20's (pre-late '91) all had the same brakes.   (ADM NA's, JDM NA's and turbos and USDM turbos).
The Toyota part numbers for pads to fit these early model brakes are:
    Front 04465-17060
    Rear 04466-17030
If you want another brand you may be able to X-reference.

After late '91, all SW20 models (except the US NA's) got the bigger brakes using different pads.

The US NA models (5sfe motor) had different brakes to all other SW 20 models that may explain the Bendix catalog.

i had the same problem (although I have the pre dec 91 turbo), I know that the db308's (I think they were from supercheap, calibre brand $50) were are too small for the pre dec91 turbo, they use the db 1227. I think the db1352's are for the post dec91 turbo.
It was hard to find they 1227 (or 1277maybe) but the prices really varied between suppliers and my advice is shop around. I ended up getting the front set for 25clams (1227 rda) and the back set(ebc) for 25 clams from my local parts guy

Hope  this helps ( I think you should try db308(fronts) for your car), but if you get stuck you should msg the gorilla industry guy dylan, when I posted my probs he said he can source pads.

Yes there are two different pads for the early model ones.

    The EBC part numbers are:
    RDB1227 (140mm Long)
    RDB308 (120mm Long)

Best to measure before you order/buy them.

My car is a 1990 AUS delivered NA, and I have recently replaced all the pads and fitted new rotors all round. I had kept the old pads and I just went had a look at them.

The pads that came off are marked:
Front pads DB 1227 (140mm long lining, inner and outer pads are the same). The front caliper has the markings 36T 25.

Rear pads DB 405. The inner pad is different to the outer pad, (the inner pad lining is about 80 mm long and outer is about 95mm long). Rear caliper has the markings 16v
BTW, I have noted that according to TOYODIY parts reference, the pads for a pre December JDM '91 G limited, and a pre-December 91 ADM should be the same for both.
