The new mr2?

Spotted this at the motorshow last night, interesting to see the manufacturer branding it as this.

Anyway I present to you, the spiritual successor to the MR2 as seen on the Lotus Toyota stand

I would *facepalm* but considering how disconnected marketing fluff is from reality it hardly seems worth it.

Successor to the MR2/Supra? Pff... It's a FR layout with a Subaru engine. The only thing in common with the MR2/Supra is that its RWD. Its not even turbo! Its good to see Toyota getting back into the sports car game though

It is turbo, well, the G's concept is turbocharged.

It should be the successor to the old school celica if anything. Too small to be a supra, wrong format for an MR2.

Conflicting turbo info! The Jap Toyota website says NA so i'd be more trusting of that. Sucks if the production version isn't going to be turbo :(

I'd say the new "MR2" is the new Lotus Elise coming out that's going to be close to SW20 weight and to be powered by a 2.0l 4cyl turbo Toyota engine.

Makes it interesting though which engine would they be using from Toyota? Maybe Toyota is cooking up some other models other than the FT86.

To true on this, to many manufacturers are too interested now in little eco buzz boxes and not sports cars [8)]

Toyota would never get my money for the FT-86. I was really underwhelmed by it. There's nothing distinctive about it at all – and it's got way too much Hyundai Tiburon and Genesis in the shape to set it apart.

After I went to the Motor Show, I just came away loving my SW20 even more, because "they" really aren't making cars like that anymore.

Unless Toyota release another car with the MR2 branding and badges, there is no "NEW" MR2...

I didn't think you were into it. Anyway, I'd get one myself, but it has to seat 5.
