oil pressure

ok so a couple of times recently my oil pressure light has stayed on after starting the car. i let it idle for a bit (30 seconds) and it stayed on, i turned it off, started it again... fixed. another time i drove a couple of metres and it turned off... but it's concerning me.

checked oil level, and it's ok. I'm still losing a little oil through the turbo seal, but the pressure light is a new development. Only happenning on start up so i dont know what to make... never comes back on or anything.

I'm cautious taking my car to ANY mechanic, and i'm in Melbourne at the moment away from my normal garage, so inclined to just keep an eye on it and take the car back to tassie for some work over xmas...

just wondering wehat people think? the engine was rebuilt about 20,000km ago.... so shouldn't be having problems.

The intermittent nature of the problem sounds like a faulty sender or loose wire.
But such an important thing should be watched carefully.

Most mechanics would have a mechanical pressure gauge that could be temporarily screwed into the top of the head in place of the sender to check if the oil pressure is actually ok.

BTW, the stock sender has a 1/8 bsp thread.

Many gauge senders have 1/8 npt adaptors. Don't let anyone screw in a 1/8 npt, it's close but not close enough.

The stock sender is actually 1/8 bspt. But I concur sounds like a dodgy sender.

I agree, I would be having a pressure gauge fitted to determine if you have correct fuel pressure
