Vibration from engine lid

I have this nasty ass vibration coming from what I think is the engine lid.

I'm just wondering if anyone has this issue? Is it common? And is there a common fix that anyone can suggest?

This noise is taking the joy out of my ride BAD!!

    SW20 or AW11?
I haven't heard this mentioned before, so it probably isn't common. If you think it's the engine lid, I suggest you temporarily remove the engine lid (easy) and see if it makes a difference. If you do try this, you might need to secure the hinges so they don't make noise themselves.

if its just the lid, go through and tighten all the bolts to make sure they're all holding properly.

sometimes its even just the weather shield that's loose.

Mine does the same - but I have a few KG worth of shroud/fans hanging off it. What I noticed when I took it off though, the lid itself that is....is that the actual hinges rotate on the mounting tab, but there is a couple mm worth of play side to side - which probably isn't an issue when your exhaust is quiet and running stock mounts. But when you have a loud burbly exhaust and polyurethane engine mounts - this wreaks havoc and I know the feeling of it sapping the enjoyment out of driving. I purposely won't rev my car over 3500 so it doesnt vibrate.

Will update this over the weekend and see how I go anyway.

Try taping up the support arm, (temporarily to see if the rattle goes away) they have a tendancy to be loose in hinge and/or the clip, the original clip is subject to heat deterioration and becomes hard and brittle, I have a replacement clip in my SW20.  Sometimes the arm drops out while driving causing a rattly noise.  But if the latter is the case you would see the dropped out support arm when you next lifted the engine lid.

Try adjusting the catch striker down a bit so that the lid contacts the rubber stops firmly.

Also check the side inspection plates for looseness.

    Is it a turbo lid?
When i had the factory shroud on I put o-rings under it where it screws on to stop rattles

Cheers for the replies dudes! Good work!

I took the car to the shop the other day. Got a wheel balance and allignment. Sorted out the vibration through the car and this stopped the vibration. Occasionally it still occurs when I go over nasty bumps.

It's definetely not the support arm, as that isn't attached. I might try what some of you suggested and try tightening bolts, o-rings etc..

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated!
