MR2 GT-S

Just want to clear up a issue with regards to the difference between the Jap import GT-S, and the GT SW20.
I also thought that the GT-S was the lighter race spec version, with main differences being:

1. GT-S was only was ever available in Hard Top.
2. GT-S had no leather seats.
3. GT-S had no automatic folding side mirrors.
4. GT-S model started from GEN 2 1992 models upward.

However I keep seeing people selling MR2s saying it's a genuine "GT-S" spec when in fact the car has a targa roof. And ironically the back has been de-badged.
Anyone able to clear the air?!

Pretty sure you'll find that the GT-S came without the options of the GT ( including targa ), in order to make it lighter. Which in away, yes it was a base model turbo - but meant to be that way, again to make the car lighter. And i'm sure it was only 1992 cars upward.

    - G
    - G-limited
    - GT-S
    - GT

Targa optional on all of them.
GT-S is base model turbo, and was introduced with ~92 update. can only assume to fill the gap between the G-limited and GT.. which would have been large. practically an SW20 version of 'G, Supercharged'
    GT is the top spec.

i can only assume without looking, but id say the GT-S is by faaaar the most common of the gen3+ SW20's sold. also interestingly, a 93+ JDM car with the targa option is a rarer thing; the hardtop wouldve had to outsold the targa 5:1!

From what people have said - the hardtop was the base model for all SW20's - with the vast majority of them actually getting the targa tops as the option which leaves the hardtops as a less common model. My GT-S is a late 92 turbo WITH leath seats and all electrics, however, does not have ABS/folding mirrors (does have electric adjust)/cruise control.
