motorkhana technique

Hi, I'm about to go on a wet skidpan motorkhana with a lot of WRX and I wondered about any tips for MR2.  Looking at Youtube videos it seems like the WRX guys tend to tug on the handbrake to get the car rotating for the tight turns in the wet and presumably then put on a bit of power.  It also looks like they are pretty much in the one gear through the run.   Would a similar technique work with MR2 or is the handbrake not appropriate?  I was suspecting using 2nd gear.  Mine seems to be happy to toss the tail around in the wet at the slightest provocation.  I know, keep it smooth.

I plan to take the first couple of runs pretty carefully before pushing.

Thanks
Brian
