Wiseco or Cp Pistons for a 3sgte?

Why do you have to buy new pistons oversized? Engine had low compression and your rebuilding?

Individual circumstances so this may not apply. Just asking because I had a great engine, 180 each cylinder, pulled apart for going mls head gasket and chatting with a machine shop - they offered me free advice on the block told me needs to be bored/honed out to oversized, new everything etc, and it simply wasn’t the case. Talking to a machine shop is asking for them to sell you what they do. Time is money and nothing leads to nothing.

Forged pistons is known to take more abuse than stock materials. With the other costs of rebuilding an engine, forged pistons are a good investment as its small in the overall costs. Using a brand name does not say one is better than the other, as many brands have different series.
“Forged” materials vary in what is used by each manufacture and within a series from the same manufacture, and forms a hp rating. Some forged have a strength to a maximum of day 400hp and others to 1000hp. You will find that some pistons are 350grams per piston and others 250grams per piston.

My ATS Racing Weisco Stage 3 pistons are $145 usd more than stage 1, rated at 1000hp than 400hp, in comparison to cp they are less than 3/4 the weight (massive weight saving) polished to a finish hugely superior to the other, wrist pin massively thicker and worth the investment, however I evaluated total costs and the what if in the future.

In your situation, see if anyone has used forged pistons in good condition - put up a want to buy - think someone had some for sale. Or measure it yourself / someone you can trust and get an oversized rings (depends on your block).

Your choice on forged pistons - read into what you are getting, look around for suppliers as different prices greatly for the same item.

Personally, if you have a stand-alone ecu and rebuilding then go 5sgte not 3sgte. But that’s a different conversation.

Did you record the total weights of the CP and Wiseco in 3sgte 86.5mm? Would be eager to know.

In my comparisons have been to 5s stroker 87.5mm in the stage 3 series for extreme stupidity over 1,000 hp, huge differences in structure of the piston and HD pin (incredibly thick). Wiseco 5sgte stage 3 248.2 grams each piston or 336.1 grams complete.

A mate has the CP 5s stroker 87.5mm etc etc, thinner wrist pin, and was 449.5 grams complete.

Tony. I've always weighed pistons complete with gudgeon pin, circlips and rings as just a bare piston weight doesn't really have a lot of meaning. The whole thing reciprocates. There's a formula that apportions part of the rod weight to the reciprocating weight also. But I've long since forgotten that. That's for blokes that do balance work to figure out.
 86.5 - rings, gudgeon pin, circlips.
Wiseco - 515 grams.
CP - 450 grams.
My ba****ds must be cast iron version !

Made a decision Wiseco won. $200AUD cheaper. They on there way. I think they will be perfect for my engine build.
