Another spyder 2zz/celica hybrid..

So Ive been lurking a while, but thought while I wait for a few bits and pieces I might as well stick my project up..

My last 2 toy cars were vw beach buggies which i loved the ride but hated the handling, the missus might of cracked it if i bought another car with no roof so luckily this had 2  so i figure it makes up for it..

I picked this 2000 spyder up for 4k... the engine/ gearbox ran well to my suprise... but the front and rear shocks were aweful  ( leaking oil ect) and the shocks were bouncing hard on just the springs. I bought Alan's teins and while stiff (I didnt think they were bad compared to other cars I've had) they improved ride quality greatly and no more hard knocking noises on bumps which sounded like the struts wanted to push through the body.....

I also got bored and went overboard with black spray cans as you do, i have a strong feeling there will be a fresh coat of paint in the future as the clearcoat is a bit bubbly in bits..

Then I started to hunt around for a donor vehicle... managed to source a 2001 celica zzr from pickles auctions  in queensland and after a bit of stuffing around with couriers managed to get it sent over to WA it was a bit of a gamble, cause pickles had it descibed as a none runner with no key,  mind you they didnt tell me that till after i bought it (****s :) )it cost around 3.5 all sent over...

On the bright side the night it arrived, i found the key in the ashtray, charged the battery checked oil and water and then drove it (was quick full lift ect...) I was so relieved car had full service history and was pretty entertaining for a few nights as its pretty rural and quiet here...

Had to start pulling the engine out because I was almost tempted to keep it..

Last weekend pulled the seats out of the celica and dyed the interior trim and the red off the seats to try and get them to match it turned out ok... the seats could probably take another coat

Major milestone this weekend... i removed the 1zz and the SMT bits seems like a waste cause there wasnt anything wrong with either but I wasnt a fan of the SMT... might be able to sell it I guess..

For anyone looking for a guide i found this handy https://midshiprunabout.o...oming-out-of-a-spyder/  the only bit it didnt describe well enough was that to retain the aircon, you have to undo the bottom air con bolts and a brace holding the lines up to be sure they arent damaged, then drop the engine and raise the car then undo the other two bolts on the top of the aircon.. that was the only bit not described..

"Stark reality 2zz swap" has a pretty good youtube channel for the swap as well if anyones looking for guides

Will pull the rest of the interior, drop the fuel tank and start swapping bits and pieces from the 1zz to the 2zz this weekend hopefully in prep for the manual swap bits...

My 2002 was a rare ZZW30, in that it had no aircon, so I missed out on that issue. Working towards fitting it though.

Good to see another one here!
