Importation of new motor vehicles

Just read the rules for importing NEW motor vehicles  are not going to change, at least in the near future. As we would like to import used sports cars maybe there could be a change on the way. It will be easier to import "Specialist & Enthusiast Vehicles", by expanding the range of vehicles eligible for consideration as a specialist & enthusiasts vehicle.
Vehicles will now only be required to meet 1 of 6 eligibility criteria, instead of the 2 of 4 under the previous criteria.
The new criteria are:
Performance
Environmental Performance
Mobility
Rarity
Left Hand Drive
Campervans & Motorhomes
In February 2016, the federal government announced it would make significant changes to the law governing the private importation of new vehicles, which would have allowed Australians to import one new car from right-hand drive countries overseas every 12 months. In a statement issued today by Paul Fletcher the Minister for Urban Infrastructure, the government said it would not seek to implement these changes.
In a statement, Minister Fletcher said: “After further detailed work on implementation arrangements, the Turnbull Government has decided not to proceed with one element of changes proposed earlier, which would have allowed personal importation of new motor vehicles from the United Kingdom and Japan.

Has anyone recently tried importing an SW20 from Japan in recent years? Very keen on purchasing an SW20 turbo but there are so few available in Australia!
