Alec's 88 aw11
After finding out about a strange history on my old aw11 (
see this post for details) I had been thinking about scrapping the car.
A nice red rolling shell was put up for sale on the Toymods Facebook page and I decided to bite the bullet and buy it to replace the old car.
I drove from Sydney to Canberra with a trailer to go collect the car.

'

This is a 1988 Australian delivered AW11. It had no engine or transmission.
The plan for this car will be the same as the previous car. I will be putting a 2nd gen 3sgte into the car. I am aiming for 200kw at the wheels.
I started by swapping over a few of the good bits from the old car.
- Supercharger engine lid
- 89 wing with brake light
- rear hubs
- front and rear arms (poly bushings in the previous car)
- steering rack (previous one was rebuilt within the last few years)
- D2 coilovers
- Supercharged cluster (swapped over the odometers)
- various interior trim.

I haven't decided what to do about the paint but I don't really want a red car. So while the engine is out I decided to paint the engine bay black.

I took this opportunity to tuck away the boot, engine bay and petrol cap cables into the fender to get them out of the engine bay.
I need to upgrade the fuel pump for the 3s. I decided to go with the AEM 320 LPH e85 compatible pump.

The fuel tank was absolutely ruined. The petrol that was in the car had been sitting for at least 6 months but was probably much longer. Luckily the tank from the old car was still good!
I have always wanted to add a second vent on the passenger side. I had the opportunity to use a cut from the previous car, so I took my chance.

You may notice the wiring loom in the fender. I relocated the fuse box from the engine bay into the boot and ran the wiring through the fender. This required cutting and lengthening the whole loom. Not a fun job.
You will have to cut out part of the inside of the fender to get proper access to where the fuel filler comes through, but the plastic cover in the fender will keep that area covered.

This was my first attempt at doing bodywork anywhere near this level and I am pretty happy with how it came out!!
I think I'll be putting the fuel filler in the boot of the car because it will be the easiest option.
Next up is the brake upgrade.
I have Celica st205 4 pot front calipers and late model sw20 turbo rear brakes.
The fronts were in terrible condition when I got them.

I bought some st205 rotors, had them resized from 315mm to 300mm. Then I had them slotted and drilled to a 4x100 stud pattern.
My front hubs have a 55mm bore to suit the bore of the rotors.
Here is a test fit of the front brakes.
Stripped and cleaned the brakes

Painted in silver!

I had to replace every piston in the front calipers because they were all rusted. The rears were fine. All brakes got a rebuild kit.
Here are the rears with RDA rotors for a clio (part numbers are RDA7133 and RDA7133D).
Calipers bolt on, the handbrake cable lines up nicely and the aw11 brake lines connect to the caliper. it was meant to be!
I am using the supercharged aw11 brake booster with the late model sw20 brake master cylinder
I swapped over the raybrig headlights from the old car (they've got a tint on them)
I bought my HUX racing engine mounts to suit a 4th gen 3sgte with an e153 the day they became available.
To make it suit the 2nd gen you just need to take a bracket from an st204 celica or from a caldina to attached to the only mount that actually attaches to the engine.
I am going to be using a ct20b on my engine. I bought a billet compressor wheel and actuator from Kinugawa.

I've got a 3" dump pipe and an aftermarket manifold to go with the turbo
Found a hand controller for the power fc. This is plug and play for a 2nd gen 3sgte
I sent my stock 3s cam gears off to be modified by ATS racing
Went down to the mr2 trackday at wakefield to sell some parts and have a look around! Hopefully i'll be there next year in my car.
And that is where my car is at now.
I am very short on time and I am trying to get the car running and registered by the time Toyotafest rolls around in October?
Wish me luck!
