Gen3 turbo crankshaft pulley/ harmonic balancer options

Hi All
I need a new Gen3 turbo crankshaft pulley for a 5SGTE build. I have an OEM but engine builder noticed the rubber had started to crack all the way round and obviously didn't recommend it. They did recommend a Ross Tuning ine, but they are Gen2 only. What other options are out there, and is it really necessary to spend $5-600 on an aftermarket? Do any aftermarket ones have a dampner? Even a new OEM is $2-300. I'm not interested in a Under driven pulley.
BTW the Gen3 has 2 same sized wheels, whereas the Gen2 has the inner wheel smaller.

Your mixing up the difference between celica and mr2 pulleys. The celicas have the smaller inner and mr2s have the 2 large. Doesnt matter if gen2 or 3.

Well if Gen2 are the same it should be easier to find one.

The Gen2 and Gen3 turbo ones have a different OEM part number, 13407-88381 and 13407-88481 respectively.

I don't know how I missed it before, but there is a Gen3 from Ross Performance, but they too have different part numbers aswell.

But it would seem NA and Turbo ones could be the same?
Are there others besides Ross Performance?

Use a Harmonic balancer and not a lightweight aluminium pulley that has no form of harmonic balancing. 3S/5S motors harmonics sit right around cruising rpm and are not good for the motor.

Use the Ross in my opinion.

It's an MR2 specific part but it has been discontinued so you won't find it at retailers anymore!

Yes I had considered the GFB one but noticed it didn't have any dampner/harmonic balancing per their site. Then found they're no longer made anyway, and didn't expect anyone to have one. The GFB, I believe is also underdrive pulley, requiring different belts.

It's the same with the Unorthodox too, being an underdrive with no harmonics. I almost bought one of those, to swap with another standard engine, before I did more research.

I can't see any benefit in me going lightweight for double the cost, so it looks like I need to buy a new OEM, unless I can find a used in good condition.

It's always a debate, but this is what can happen:

I'm still trying to sort out my best (not expensive) option here.
I don't know why I didn't think of it before, but I have built a 5SGTE (block and crank) so why not use a 5S harmonic balancer. Perhaps I didn't consider this earlier because of the belt differences for the ancillaries, but I'm going to see if I can match up the ancillaries to the block/brackets and maybe change wheels on the ancillaries.

What has everyone else used when building a 5SGTE?

Can you not just use a used SW20 3sgte crank pulley? gen2 or 3.

When I built a tough gen2 motor many years ago I used a 5sfe crank in a 3sgte block using the original gen 2 3S pulley. I used the alternator in the factory location along with A/C compressor. No issues at all and is still pumping out 320KW ATW today after apparently 40+ thousand KMs.

Sure an aftermarket damper isn't cheap but it will help your engine live a long and healthy life! I'm using a Ross on my build and talking with my tuner he recommends a damper on all his builds whether its Ross, Ati or Fluidampr etc.

In his experience the engines with them lasted longer then those without. Why not spend a few hundred extra now when you've gone to the trouble of building a 5sgte?

Aftermarket crankshaft pulleys are not a good idea.  Have had several engines over the years that cracked cranks due to harmonics destroying them.

Just use a stock one and leave it at that. :)
