What's that sound?

Hey guys!

Finally got my SW20 running again.
It's got a lumpy as **** idle, doesn't like revving, and is chucking a code 52, which is knock sensor.

I have a few theories, but would like your thoughts before I start tearing into this.

other info to add, It's running super lean (like off the scale of the wideband lean), I just did bearings and it's not been started or driven in 4 months.

Cheers in advance,
Joe.

Joe, sounds like your timing is way out. Definitely doesn't sound like it's running on all 4 cylinders.

Sounds to me like it's running on three cylinders as Carmickey also said.  That would explain why your wideband is showing lean and causing knock sensor code.

Pull your plugs and see if you have a dead one.  Maybe one has fowled up.

Your is timing is out. Have you had the head off? Are they standard cams or after market? If after market you need to degree your cams with the crank, You only need to one tooth out on your belt to cause problems.

My bet is a plug has cracked/broken during installation.

To all those who have said my timing is out, it ran fine the last time I drove it, and I haven't taken anything bar the rocker cover off.
It's running stock timing with stock cams, gears and crank, so i certainly don't need to touch that.

For those who say it was running on 3 cylinders, you are correct! It sounds like a boxer engine, doesn't it?

    Surprise!

The best clue was when you said   "It's running super lean (like off the scale of the wideband lean)."
All that air from the dead cylinder being pumped into the exhaust gives a extremely lean reading on the wideband sensor.

It's idling and revving nicely now.
Still chucking a warning light, but an ECU reset should fix that.

    Thanks for the input :)

Not only where but why ?  Earth electrodes don't just fall off.  Is the porcelain up inside the plug cracked ?

    Yeah, about that...

I have no idea where the rest of the electrode went.

After I finished the bearings and my new exhaust (unrelated, but don't make a full pie-cut exhaust out of stainless... it suuuuuucked), I chucked some oil in it, cranked it by hand with the plugs out to check and see if there were any tight spots. Then put it all together and started it.
It idled fine, firing on all 4, etc, etc.

The next day, I pulled the plugs out again to make sure there weren't any tight spots.

There were none so I put them back in.

It must've broken after that since that was when it stopped firing...

I checked inside the cylinder for the electrode, chucked a magnet in there, made a cone out of paper and stuck a vacuum in there, and found nothing...

I guess the electrode isn't in the combustion chamber, at the very least...

Also, the porcelain is fine and still completely intact, so I'm stumped as to how it happened...
