I have a 92 na sw20 .the gear shifter feels quite loose between gears and especially when in neutral.is this a shifter problem or gearbox problem 😵

I'd check shifter linkages, start at gearbox end and check the bushes at the end of the cables. I only have e153 experience but would think yours has the small square bush that's prone to wear. This link might help,

That square block:
The S54 transmission has a steel square bush that can often be rotated 90 degrees (if it hasn't been done already) but it is only very cheap from the dealer anyway.
Job can be done easily from the top of the engine bay.
To undo the 2 bellcrank holding bolts, remove the airbox assy, and
loosen
the starter motor holding bolts and tilt it (no need to fully remove it) just enough to
loosen
the partially hidden stud underneath (middle right in the pic). You can then access the square block (middle left in the pic)
Grease it when you put it back.
