holy crap, 040 is definitely white, my starlet is the same code... But i am 99% sure this car was blue from the factory, under the interior, the engine bay and frunk are all the 8e3 blue. this is weird

Someone's been playing with the plates? Might explain why a 1987 car has 1989 electrics on it too. Looks like someone was desperate to road register an 89 car which came through the back door. Looking at the pics again, it's definitely factory painted blue.

No, just reminds me of another recent thread with a car of suspect history.

Looks like someone has done a "Targa top conversion"

http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/q?vin=AW11RWCMQFQ
Not the car specific vin but the model code off the plate

My old AW11 had a very weird history, and the plates said some weird stuff on them. But further digging indicated it was a test mule and a bitser. Basically built with left over bits and piece and then shipped to australia.

Does the VIN on the plate match the VIN on the body (to the right of the plate?)

Does it look like its been resprayed where the stamped VIN number is on the body? Could of had the stamped section welded in from the car that owned the plate.

It has been far too long since I've made an update.
This will be the last update on this car.

As it was pointed out above, the vin and ID plates have been changed over on this car at some point in its life. Not sure if it was written off or if it was a dodgy import, but either way... if the RMS finds out the car gets crushed.

I made the decision to part out the car and scrap the shell.

Please take comfort in the fact that the death of this car has resulted in keeping many other australian aw11's on the road!

I owned this car for about 4 years and I am really sad to see it go. I have learnt a lot from it and made a lot of friends because of it!

I should also mention that another adub is in my possession and I'll be making a thread on that sometime soon!

Sorry that you had to get rid of it. Probably a wise thing to do though.

Are you selling any of the parts you removed?

Most of the parts went up on gumtree, were taken by friends or I have kept for the next car. I do have a few bits and pieces left over but not much

The First time i saw that car was at Wetheril park Officeworks. Tried to find out who owned the car as i had my Sw20 there, and there where no other mr2's around. Even got a photo of it lol. Pretty car.

What's the plans for the red one?

Oh yeah, those weekly wetherill park meets were fun while they lasted.. too many idiots attending though.
The new car will basically pick up where this one left off. Still going the 3sgte route.

I just made a thread of that cars progress https://www.mr2australia.com/mr2play/tm.aspx?m=135423#135423
