New advice on tyres

Have always been running 205/40R17 tyres on my Spyder but I have since found out that it is illegal because every 205/40R17 tyre sold is below the recommended load rating for the vehicle.
Vehicle needs a min load rating of 83 Fronts and 86 Rears.
It is currently running crappy Maxxis tyres as they are the only ones that make a 86 load rated tyre
Any recommendation on tyres for my rims with the correct load rating?
If I went to a 215 sized tyre, will it rub on the suspension? No tyre shop is willing to install a 215 tyre and have to take it off if it rubs.

    I think if you talk to a good tyre shop they will be able to help you. They SHOULD have information about rolling diametres, circumfrence and actual width. Which is what you should need to calculate if your chosen tyre will scrub.

    Thanks Barry. Thats the hard part I guess.
    The majority of Jax and Bob Jane's are useless in my experience. Nor have they ever heard of cars with staggered tyres. Nor do they bother checking load ratings.

    Are you wanting to run a 215/40r17 on the rear?
    I used to run 205/40r17 on the front with 215/40r17 on the rear with coil overs and never had a rubbing issue, the tyres where bridgestone adrenaline re-002

    Also factory front tyres are 185/55r15 with a load rating of only 82

    Yes I was looking at actually running 215/40's all round. Although it would straw my figures out my more than the recommended 3%. The 215/40's will give me a variation of 3.5% fronts and 3% on the rears
    How did you go with the staggered 205 and 215 sizes on the Spyder? Am I not better off sticking with 215's all round to aid with tyre rotation?
    The problem is still trying to get a 86 rated tyre for the rear in a 205 without that crappy Maxxis stuff.

    I never had a uneven wear on my tyres, they always wore perfectly.
    I do think there was some scrubing with the 205 on the front but only at full lock.

    I went staggered as thats how toyota set it up.
    I now have 205/50r15 on the front with 215/45r16 on the rear and the cars handles even better than before but that might be due to the big drop in unsprung mass?

    Out of curiosity who told you the load rating was illegal? I know 40 is a low profile but doesn't seem like it would be a potential danger. I am unfamiliar with the Zdubs, can you get a picture of the placard (if its relevant?).
     
    I ran 205/50/16 when I had a celica and load rating was fine (can't remember it though, but police went over it with fine tooth comb). 

    In terms of tyre advice I's steer well clear of anything made by Maxxis. I'd go for a more reputable brand like Bridgestone RE00X, Michelin Pilot, Toyo Proxes, Hankook Ventus etc.

    NRMA and also here is the writing from the RTA NSW "Any replacement tyre must have a load rating equal to or better than the rating of the original tyres fitted by the vehicle manufacturer. " Also, from the Tyre Power website: "It is both illegal and dangerous to drive with tyres that are lower than the recommended speed rating."
     
    Insurance companies will do everything in their power to not pay out claims as much as they can and if this is one aspect that they can use, they will to avoid paying out a motor vehicle claim.
     
    That is why I am scratching my head and stuck for tyres
     
    Even the first time I got my tyres replaced and Beaurepairs fitted 84 load rated tyres all round, I noticed it after 6 months and brought it to their attention and they did all they could to make sure they got me the correct load rated tyres for the rears and that is how I ended up with those useless Maxxis.
