Take a final look at the 73 lots to go under the hammer (the 1991 MR2 is lot 9) next Monday night at the 2015 Melbourne Spring Classic Auction. Shannons Melbourne showroom is open this weekend for inspection and a free sausage sizzle provided by the Pontiac Car Club. 1991 Toyota MR2 Targa Coupe

Coming from long-term ownership, the second and current custodian of this exceptional Toyota MR2 purchased the car when it was just a year old in 1992 and has cherished it for more than two decades. Heavily optioned with factory air conditioning, cruise control and an alarm, the car also features numerous upgrades, including Koni adjustable struts, ROH Venturo Hyper Silver 16-inch modular rims and a high end sound system installed by Phatt Audio Concepts in 2013, featuring an Alpine head unit, Phoenix sub and amp and Hertz speakers. It looks like a good one.  Plus the person who purchased it may have paid more because it was for a good cause.

Having a car registered is no test of its on-road value, particularly in places where mechanical inspections for registration are not done on an annual basis. If registration really meant something when it comes time to sell then many so-called "barn finds" would be worth a lot less.
 
Also check out recent Unique Cars magazines. There have been a number of SW20's in recent editions that have been priced well over $7K.
 
I also feel Redtarga is on to something about the value of SW20's in good original condition starting to go up in price.
 
Like seems to have happened with the AW11 (Glass's Guide has had a $1000.00 increase on them in the past 12 months) there will be a tipping point where people realise that SW20's that have been properly looked after and not heavily modified are suddenly getting scarce and values will certainly rise.
 
 Sharon's point about the charity aspect is also very valid, so the $7K paid doesn't seem high at all.
