'95 3SGE into '90 body?

Hi Guys,

Mate of mine has purchased a 1990 N/A SW20 with a blown motor.

He has lined up a rebuilt N/A 3SGE, but it is out of a '95 SW20. Is this compatible? Or does he need the '95 ECU & wiring loom to go with the motor? And if so, how much drama is he in for swapping the electronics??

Thanks for any input!

Cheers,
Glen

Yes, needs elecs to run it. Pretty mush tge same for fitting a 3sgte. Some wires need swapping in the loom to fuse box.

You may be able to get a patch loom and use the std 1990 engine loom.

You can run the straight gen3 motor on the gen2 electronics just fine, but you need to change a few things, like the injectors, coil, distributor etc.  Did all that on a 1990 back in NZ... used a high-cam 3sge from a 95 and used the original Gen2 ECU/loom/etc. and automatic box.  Went hard :D

It works just fine, a noticable improvement in performance, for bugger all cost.  It's not far removed from just upping the compression on a stock gen2 engine to begin with!

I built the car in question from the ground up in 2007 and to this day, its still going strong with my wife's brother back in NZ.  The only thing to take note of is running it on 98 is a preference, as the static compression is significantly higher than the original engine.

Thanks Glen for asking on here for me.
The 95 motor is completely recoed and too good to pass up, if it can be made to work.
How much is a gen3 ecu worth?
