Back in Black 1995 ADM GT
I've owned a white JDM MR2 GT (3S-GTE turbo) since 2005.....and now I'm also an owner of an Australian domestic market 1995 MR2 GT. The vehicle is completely stock apart from a couple of items which I'll list later. Despite looking pretty nice (and stock), the car had accumulated a bunch of things that needed a bit of attention. None of these things were anything major, but the cautious buyer would be unsure about going through with the purchase. So just meant I got it for a good price :)   As most would know the Australian MR2 GT comes with creature comforts that the Bathurst did not; such as power steering, leather interior, drivers airbag, cruise control, factory alarm/keyless entry/immobiliser etc. I have to say driving on the highway with cruise control is quite a treat.  At this stage I don't have any specific plans on modifying anything, I've actually been enjoying the car as is in stock form. I'll even go as far as saying that I feel it's a bit unique being kept bone stock - though I know there are other members out there with the same mindset too.

The car came with service history and owners books as well, there was a bunch of receipts and service books that needed some organising. So over the last week I've organised all of these into chronological order and made up a spreadsheet with the history, services, owner/registration changes and odometer readings. Car had just ticked over 200,000kms when I got it. Built in Feb 1995 with a compliance date of Mar 1995, it was sold by Adelaide CMI Toyota sometime after that..date unknown. For interest sake I contacted CMI Toyota sales to see if there were any existing records, but they never had anything kept on file apart from the South Australian registration number - VTV818. The car was sold in 1999 and then had it's first NSW registration, YCE990. In 2002 it changed owners again in NSW with number plates AL9949 and was serviced by Castle Hill Toyota. In 2012 it changed owners again, along with the NSW registration number which became BES93C. Then eventually made it's way to Queensland with me in 2017. If anyone knows the car, is a prior owner, or has any other details let me know. Must be the historian in me, I enjoy hearing a bit of a story behind a vehicle.

Very Nice! I had the one same year and model in a dark green. I had not seen this on the usual carsales etc. Where was it for sale? Or was it just a good luck drive past sale?

When I bought the car, the previous owner had refitted the factory alloys but had lost a few of the wheel nuts. He had found a couple of replacements, but one of the rear wheels was still short of a wheel nut. Not only that, but most of the longer wheel nuts had been fitted to the front wheels and the shorter nuts fitted to the rears. It looked a bit odd with wheel nuts protruding outside the face of the alloys. So naturally with it being a semi-safety issue (down one nut), the wheel nuts were the first thing I sorted out. I swapped all the nuts around, and torqued them up to 80ftlb. Some nuts were well over-tightened, probably from an impact gun being used at a workshop which is a bit of a bug bear of mine. I had a suitable spare nut to take care of the missing one such that I had a full complement of nuts holding the wheels on. I still need 4 long wheel nuts for the rear to so all are the original length, but I'm not going to go out of my way to buy any at this stage...I'm not that much of a nutter. Let me know if you have any you're getting rid of though :)

I quite like that dark green (metallic), though haven't seen a lot of them that have well cared for paint. This one was advertised on Gumtree. I'd watched it for a couple of weeks, when I spoke with the guy he was about to list it on Carsales and up the price after hassles with the typical fodder you have to deal with.

Next repair I have done is to replace some of the front passenger side stone guards and correctly fit the passenger side inner guard liner as it had no fasteners attached. The passenger side tray underneath the radiator had been ripped off, the shredded piece left was in the boot. There is a corner box section that attaches to a vehicle tie down point/plate, the inner guard and the stone tray. This piece had a decent crack through it, which only upon close inspection I realised was from the tie down point/plate having been bent out of shape. I suspect it is from (incorrectly) being pulled sideways rather than it being bent from a hit underneath as there was no mark on the paint underneath where it would have had to been hit.  All these plastic underbody parts, when fitted with the correct clips and fasteners help hold the bumper and guard firmly in place and keep the correct shape. The bottom trailing edge of the bumper/front lip can easily be flopped around by hand, easily noticed when washing this area of the car. The inner guard had absolutely no fasteners holding it in place at all, only a couple (but not all) of the plastic clips that attach the the liner to the guard. Amazingly it never had any holes through it from rubbing on the tyre, thanks to some rustly old wire holding the leading edge. Assortment of OEM inner guard liner fasteners below.. I'd already fitted a bunch of hex screws (with the captive washer). Still surprises me that the inner guard stayed in-situ without all the hardware to hold it in place.  So the car now has a stiff bottom lip :) I have made other progress too but will post later... the Monaco Formula 1 has just finished - so off to bed with me.

If u look around or even underneath the air box, you'll probably find the sensor hidden there. The sensors look almost the same as the air temp sensor on the engine lid.  Sent from my SM-J320ZN using Tapatalk

Thanks for that shot. I'll have another look, I did poke around a bit to see whether I could find some loose wiring or vacuum hose etc..but couldn't see much.

Removed the base of the airbox and it was jammed under that. Either they didn't realise when they put it all back together or couldn't be bothered undoing it all to get the sensor.
