WTB: 1993 JDM turbo ECU

Hi,

my car is off the streets,
the mechanic wants me to get another ECU as he said my one is faulty,

I have a 1993 JDM turbo

NEED AN 89661-17380 ECU

I don't know much about MR2s
but does it have to be the exact 93 turbo JDM one?
or I can fit Australian delivered ones in too?
and also the year does it have to be 93?

someone told me the 1990 model have a different harness clip at the back and also different ECU solenoid plugs

thanks for your time

Vincent

    Hi Vincent
Yes you need the exact turbo ECU and that can be a challenge to find the right one. I suggest you talk to  Mark at MRC at Castle hill p96345399 or Paul at Boss Tuning Girraween m0424 150 997. He is next to SSS Imports. I would get the car checked out by someone who knows these cars as most mechanics don't have much of a clue.
I think there are 2 models in 1993. The Rev 2 ran to Oct and Rev3 from Nov 93 and they were quite different.
    GL with your car.

For the love of (name your favoured deity (or take another option if you please))

Take the car to a specialist. These cars can be annoying and a learning curve for mechs who don't know them. Don't fund their education. Take it to someone who knows all the tricks.

What the guys said are correct. Take it to someone who knows MR2 otherwise it can get messy.
And if you do need the Rev2 Turbo ECU, I do have one. Its off a 1992 Aug SW20 Turbo (before the changeover to Rev3). This might get you out of trouble.

For my own good I really should go to a specialist, already thinking of taking the car to Paul Brell
however, the mechanic now is a friend's uncle,
he was the one who drove me from his garage to the stall car location and organized the towing for me during his business hours,
I really don't want to offend his knowledge by saying I'm going to take the car to a specialist instead,
and also he hasn't charged me anything yet,
so right now I'm thinking of sourcing a cheap ECU see if it can fix the problem,
if not, I'm gonna ring up Paul Brell from Boss Tuning,

    thanks for advice guys

^ hey may not be offended at all. Like I say, these cars can be a royal pain in the ar$e to diagnose. Talk to him and say there's a specialist on the model. Share the experts diagnosis with your friends uncle and he may appreciate the shared knowledge. Not that he'd be likely to come across these cars too often, they grow rarer every day and that's why i (we here) like them all the more.

Finding the exact ecu gives you more dramas, it may not be the ecu at all. When these cars run right they are a pleasure, when you have to throw fist of fingers to point out a problem they are not fun.

Paul Brell is a really nice bloke, he may provide some advice even if he's not carrying out the work.
