MR2 SW20 Buying Tips for a newbie
Hello,
Thanks for allowing me to become a member of the MR2 Australia forum.
Just to give you a brief rundown, I have owned 30+ cars in my 25 years of driving! Yes I think there is an official name for this condition lol.
I have owned lots of different cars including a R/T Charger (yes I should not have sold it!) to a brand new S15 200SX. The fastest car I have owned was a mildly modified S14 200SX with 180rwk and 400nm of torque. I am not brand loyal and respect MOST cars based on individual merit. I do like my JDM cars but have never owned one.
Ever since I saw the SW20 brand new in the showroom at Toyota I knew that I would like to own one! Well that time has come and after driving a stock 90 GT turbo, I think I would like one with forced induction. I have done a little bit of research into the JDM models including the difference between a GT and G-limited.
There is one car that I am very interested in BUT the air conditioning has been removed from the engine bay. Liking my creature comforts, it is one thing that I would like to re-install. I do most mechanical work myself and was wondering if it is a big job to install. From what I have read on this forum, there seems to be a number of systems. I plan to look at the car tomorrow and assume that all the under dash equipment is still there. The car has not been gutted internally. I will also be checking to see if the condenser is still there. But any tips on where the Receiver/Dryer and other items should be would be greatly appreciated. I am okay when it comes to checking for accident repair but any other quirks I should be looking out for would be great knowledge. Also I plan to use it on track days. Is it better that it does not have ABS for this use?
Judging by the factory seats and wheel it is G, 91mdl with forged internals, near new turbo, aftermarket exhaust, Wolf 3d ecu, Bosch 044 external fuel pump, larger injectors and oil catch can. It is red with 17inch alloys. If anybody has looked at this car and it is a dog, could you please let me know and save me a lengthy drive from the country....
Thanks again, and sorry for the large post.
