3sgte/sw20/manual clunking real bad from the back end ??

anyone know why my 3sgte mr2 is clunking like crazy after i go over 30kmh in any gear ?? My drivers side wheel looked really wonky spinning on jacks so i put a different wheel on and its rotating fine.
The wheel bearing seams pretty good, the cv joints have some play but nothing major yet it clunks so much ???

    If it's just that wheel that's wonky then it could just be how it sits on the hub, it may not fit on the hub and be causing issues.

    Hi,

    My experience with clunking noise is one or more of the following things:

    1. Old worn-out Shockie mounts;
    2. Old worn-out and dried bushes; and/or
    3. Old worn-out shockies.

    I have progressively replaced all these parts, with the exception of my front shockies, and I have almost alleviated all clunking noises. Hopefully once I have replaced my front shockies, all noises will be gone.

    BTW, I have also replaced all my lower ball joints and the front-end rack, which could be why your front wheel has so much play.

    Our babies are moving into the heritage age, and to expect that these parts will last over 15-20 years, is a big ask.....things do wear out eventually!

    You can find an example of what I have done to my baby at:

    Cheers,

    I have the same issue - I have rose jointed adjustable rear sway bar links  -- I think that is why it clunks on acceleration/deceleration  as the weight shifts backwards/forwards

    so keep us informed of how you fix it
