GT4 Engine into SW20

G'day all,

I got news back from the engine builder and it's pretty grim.
Scoring on the crank, oversize pistons needed and new camshafts.
They reckon it's all fixable, but expensive.

My plan now is to source a 3rd Gen GT4 engine and chuck that in...
There's one in Sydney I hope to look at.

My question is, what work is required to make it fit?
The alternator needs to change position but that's about all I know.

Any info will help, before I pull the trigger.

*EDIT* Car is already Gen3 engine converted.

Easy if you already have a gen3, just swap over all the ancillaries. Alt, crank pulley, ac, assoc brackets, water outlet neck off head, dipstick and tube,.

The one you are looking at (if it's red) is 'Admin's. Talk to him about it if you're keen on it.

And yes, Ace covered switching it all, pretty much drop in apart from that.

Good, I was concerned about having to drill alternator bracket holes like in some of the 5SFE builds.

just use your alternator bracket and thats just about it ,assuming your not using the air to water intercooler ,if you are then you need to use engine loom and computer ..
other than that, easy. good luck
    Cheers

You may need to buy 2 pins for the carrier bearing housing which you hammer into the block (it could be a pita getting the out of the old block un-damaged). Everything else is swap over!

That's for the long driveshaft I assume? Doesn't the Celica use one?

Nah the gt4 has a transfer case behind the motor and 2 equal length shafts.
