Cause of burning oil?

My car has started burning a bit of oil, I have no idea what is causing it.
 
It seems to only start once the car is fully warmed up, doesn't increase much with rpm, can't see a huge cloud behind me on full throttle or deceleration.
 
I do have a catch can but it obviously isn't working very well as there is a bit of oil in the intake but even after a long drive with no boost and cleaning most of the oil out of the intake it's still burning a lot at idle.
 
Compression is good, took the dump pipe off and I can't see any oil around the center of the turbo or in the exhaust.
 
Is this valve stem seals? Head has been rebuilt recently with new seals.

    A turbo with stuffed oil seals will leak oil into the exhaust at idle. When on boost or driving normally hardly any oil will leak past the seal.

    That's my guess anyway. Experienced it twice before exactly as you describe.

    I've got the turbo seal/ exhaust leak prob myself- when running cold I get some spatter from the exhaust. I figure that proves the oil is not passing through the engine itself, just down the exhaust. Does yours burn when cold?

    If you have oil at the inlet of the intercooler it may be from the turbo but this is unlikely as a turbo seal leak is usually into the exhaust.  At idle manifold vacuum is at it highest and will try to suck in air from where ever it can as the throttle valve is closed. This usually caused air and oil to be drawn in through the valve seals. You said that the seals had been changed.  Did you do the valve stem guides? If they are worn it will flog out your seals quickly.

    The valve guides were replaced with new bronze ones.
     
    It only burns once its hot.

    It may be the oil rings. Try pulling the spark plugs clean them then put back in and go for a short drive just enough to start the smoking then pull the plugs and see if one is black and oily.

    It's most likely the turbo. It's easy to check. If your intercooler is full of oil then that's it.

    It is common for the ct26 to leak oil into the inlet

    How much oil are you burning?

    Also make sure the air filter is clean. If it's restricting air flow the turbo can start sucking oil through the compressor seal. Witnessed this before.

    I noticed some oil spatter on the wall behind the car and my first suspicion is the turbo seals, snce I've never had
    spatter or a turbo before. :o)
    Q: what happens if the condition is left untreated ?  Do I need more info, like hot v cold or throttle open v closed ?
     I believe the turbo is the stock CT26 , are they easy to recondition ? expensive ?
