Aw11 front strut shortening

LI have been mucking around for the last few days cutting off the old spring spring seats and putting on the weld rings for the Ground Control coil over conversion and I thought I would try doing a cut and shut on my front strut housings to maintain as much suspension travel as I can after the car is lowered
I thought I would post some photos in case anyone felt like having a go.

I cut about 15mm out of housing just below the spring seat here.

And added it back in below the mounting bracket. I cut the bottom off the bottom of an old pair of struts to save an additional weld. If you want to keep the full range of standard camber adjustment 15mm is about all you can add before the strut hits the ball joint.
I also figure that it will keep the roll bar closer to original alignment once the car is lowered.

I gave them a coat of "Ohlins" gold paint

The welds show up a bit more when they have a coat of paint

The critical thing is getting the tubes cut straight and square so the tube keeps straight when it is welded together. I cut the tubes with a hacksaw then spent a fair bit of time with a file getting them squared up.
You need to be careful not to get too much weld penetration into the inside of the tube or it will stop the insert going back in
I will update once I have the struts put together with the ground control sleeves and Eibach springs.
