Victoria mr2 car rego questions

Heya, I'll be moving from the ACT to Melbourne in the next few months and I have a done a bit of research and it looks like registering an mr2 in Vic isn't very different than registering one in the ACT in terms of allowed mods/ wheels, etc... but I was wondering, since it's an import if there are only a few places where I can rego the car and if they are pretty picky or not so much? In the ACT, there was only one place for that, and they are really annoying/ picky.

Also, is it like NSW where the car needs a safety inspection every year or like in the ACT where you only need to do that when you first register the car? Again, I couldn't find info on that, strangely enough, but if anyone could point me in the right direction and if peoples from Vic could share their experience if they had any problem with rego on a turbo mr2?

I'll probably be looking for a good mr2 mechanic in the Melbourne area over the next few months so if anyone know of any good place (or any mechanic looking for work on the side), please let me know :)

Any help appreciated, cheers!

I bought a 1994 Turbo Hardtop from a guy in Sydney.  I took it to my local Road Worthy Centre (Ultra Tune Thomastown) who provided a road worthy certificate for me and then changed the registration to a Victorian one via vicroads.

Pretty painless as the car was near stock with good tyres and brake components, no oil leaks and looked neat.

There are no annual inspections.  As to being picky, the car must be legal and roadworthy.  If it looks like a hoon car then they will look at the mods done to ensure they are legal and safe.

IDB in Richmond have a good reputation in the community.  I've also used Huey from next door to them at Anson Auto.  He's also very knowledgeable on MR2's.

That's awesome, thanks for the info :)
A RWC was needed for you because you bought the car in another state and needed to transfer ownership, it may or may not be needed for me since I am moving to another state after having owned the car already, right?
I have seen on the Vic rego website that they may or may not request a RWC for the car when moving from interstate but it was unclear under which circumstances they would (not even sure if the car needs to be there when trying to register it).

In terms of mods that could be problematic for me: boost controller, 18" wheels with 3-5% higher rolling diameter and uncovered (but secured) pod filter. Nothing too bad, I'd think, but I prefer to come prepared :)

Thanks for the mechanics recommendation, much appreciated!

Alex, u definitely don't need a WRC, cos I moved from Sydney to Melbourne abt 7 years ago with my S15. They change the left over of the rego n that it. BT my car is pretty much stock beside pot filter.

Awesome, thanks mate. So I guess they didn't even look at your car? Just had to go to the office at Vicroads and do the paperwork and be done with it?
