info on oil cooler system AW11

Hi guys.

I have an 1987 AW11 that has been upgraded from a 4age to a 4agze by the previous owner who still used the C32 gearbox that has finally given up on me.  so I purchased a 1988 half cut with a 4agze and E51 LSD gearbox to do a total transplant.  But I have noticed that the 4agze that I have taken out has a oil line from the oil filter housing  to the oil to water cooler and then back to the sump. but the new engine from the half cut does not have this.

Can any one advise me as to the difference and if I should remove the oil filter housing and the sump and change it over.

Cheers

It's likely with the original GZE swap they reused the sump and oil filter plumb location from an ADM NA AW11 which DID have an oil cooler.
Manual GZE's never got an oil cooler, you might find surprising. The only GZE's that did get an oil cooler were automatics (which have both oil and trans fluid coolers).

I recommend using the oil cooler if you want to do any sort of track work, so sump and filter housing swap would be the way to go. It will run fine without it however.

A lot of AW11's serious on track work also upgrade the barrel oil to water cooler for something better, but in honesty if you have the factory cooler I recommend trying it out with a temp gauge and a few different types of oil.

For street only work, factory oil cooler will be more than adequate.

    Thanks for the info.

I mainly use the car for a daily drive as i do not like to use my 2011 WRX to travel to and from work. ( the MR2 is much more fun )  But i am hoping to have it ready for the Track Day that MR2 Australia is having in feburary, would love to see how it goes around the track.

    Cheers
