SCHEDULED RUN SUNDAY 17 AUGUST 2014 - POSTPONED FOR A WEEK At the start of the year the planning was for the August Run on Sunday the 17th to be a Slidewize event, but because of some problems the Slidewize people were experiencing and the non-club Track Day later announced for Friday the 22nd of August it was decided to change the August activity to a "normal" Run.
However, after conducting the detailed road recon and seeing the increasing weather warning for heavy rain over this coming weekend we have decided to postpone the August Run until the weekend following the Track Day, namely Sunday the 24th of August.
Normally wet winter weather would not be a great concern for us (Toyota Mr2's don't leak, they just feel a bit damp sometimes
) but the really interesting route we have chosen for August has a number of deep creek culverts and narrow low bridges to cross, some of which carried strong flash flood warnings and would no doubt be under water given the prediction of up to 40mm for the ranges. Finding this out in advance is one of the advantages of conducting a thorough route check before the Run takes place.
As the route also has no viable alternatives, except some very long stretches of not well-maintained dirt, safety for ourselves and the cars has to be the priority, so the decision has been taken to put the Run off for a week.
We really want to do this route as it suits the cars and takes us away from recreational traffic of the kind normally found on the regular Mt Glorious-type twisties. Delaying it also doesn't create the pressure of choosing between the planned 17 August Run and the Track Day, so the opportunity is there to enjoy both while having time to prep the car for competition.
The Run this month will therefore now take place on Sunday the 24th of August 2014. I apologise in advance if anyone has made specific plans to be on the Run for this coming Sunday, but even if the forecasts are only half-right it will not be an enjoyable day out.
Look out for the Run Notice to be posted on Monday next week, and Run Sheets will be PM'd to members as per normal procedure. With good weather this August Run will be one of the best we will do this year so hope to see you there.
