SW20 Headroom (aka torso room)

Been measuring so I can get some sort of seating organised for my SW20, and working with what I call my "relaxed vertical seating height", which is sitting with a vertical straight back (against a wall for eg) but not stretching but letting the spines natural curves relax a bit. A car should allow for such a distance in the event of an accident so your head doesn't hit the roof and also so you can lean forward if you need to reach for something on the control panel. My RSH is 965mm which is obviously too high for the SW20 with targa inserts at 900mm. The overall height at tailbone from floor to roof lining is 1010mm so I could have a problem. Been looking into Recaro options but not looking good, might have to go with a completely redesigned seat and custom brackets. Has anyone else solved the issue (apart from bolting a bucket seat to the floor) who has a RSH over 900mm, or do you just not mind if your head hits the roof?

I took a look at the factory seats and they are really well made (not surprising). I easily lowered the seat cushion 20mm with no modifications to the upholstery (extended the rear seat springs). I could probably get another 20mm lower if I reupholstered. It's not a bad level for me even at just 20mm lower. The backrest is way too hard for me (seat cushion is actually not bad) going to end up re-foaming and upholstering it anyway, but for now I can at least see where I'm going and not hit my head. I would say if you are much taller than 6'4" or you are >6'2" and are long torso'd (I have a 29" inseam), forget buying an MR2.
