NRG Quick Release Steering Hub Adapter

Hi everyone,
 
I have bought a NRG Quick Release Steering Hub Adapter for my MR2 and went to fit it this afternoon but when I pulled the factory steering wheel off I found that the hub adapter for the quick release wont fit due to the plastic swivel piece that has a piece that protrudes through the factory steering wheel for the horn connection. I have read that the JDM MR2 has a different setup in this department than the Australian delivered versions.
So my question is has anyone else fitted the NRG quick release to a 94 non airbag JDM model and is their a hub adapter that just fits this model or do I need to modify it?
