4agze Aw11 O2 Sensor Help

Hi Elders of the Forum I have another question in relation to my AW11

Under the car the other day I noticed that the O2 sensor cable is frayed and barley hanging onto the sensor. My car has been having issues idling and running in the low RPM range before the SC kicks in. I would imagine this sensor is the cause.

My question is this then, were can I get a new sensor that fits into the sock manifold and where can I get the sensor cables wiring diagram? I essentially will need to replace the sensor and patch in a replacement wire.

All help would be much appreciated.

Thanks guys :)

check out opc.mr2oc.com for the BGB, that'll give you the cabling diagrams.

google for "online toyota EPC" and find a site with images as well as part numbers. toyodiy.com used to be the best site for this but they recently had a cease and desist warning for their images.

Once you have the part number, plug it into a site like amayama.com to order it.

Are your idle issues when the car is cold, warm or both? I'd imagine on cold the O2 sensor hasn't warmed up yet anyway so wouldn't change a thing. Could be possible on warm though.

You will also find 4AGZE's there are about half a dozen different things that could cause idle issues, but first step is definitely getting that sensor sorted, read the BGB about diag mode (bridging T1 and E1 plug), sort any further issues before moving on to checking vac connections etc.

Its only when its warn and the car settles the idle below 1000rpm. The idle gets rough and if you step on the gas and let go when the idle dips below 1000rpm it strains and nearly stalls. To me it seem like the engine could be running a little rich.

I recently found a boost leak due to the previous owners dodgy boost gauge install. Fixing this helped with the issue but hasn't completely solved it. I do notice that when I put my foot down there is a little hesitation before the SC kicks in. Once I have the SC engaged the engine runs like a dream.

I have yet to look for a vacuum leak, I know that vacuum leaks in these engines can also cause what I am experiencing. Checking for a vacuum and changing the O2 sensor are my next tasks.

Does any of this sound like the symptoms of a missing/ faulty O2 sensor?

Maybe try unplugging the O2 sensor and running without it for a while to see if there is any difference?
The ecu will use default values if the sensor is not connected. If your car runs beautifully without it then its likely your problem. If it still runs like crap then it might be something else.

Ill give that a go, thats a good idea. These engines dont then rely on the sensor for fuel values? I was unaware the system had programmed defaults like that.

Read the BGB, put it in diag mode, note any sensor issues. The BGB will also have a recommend order of troubleshooting for idle issues.

If I haven't already said it, read the BGB ;) trust me it's your best friend. It even has multimeter readings for the sensor and wiring back at the ECU side, so you'll be able to tell if you've fixed the wiring or if the sensor is still faulty.

No use trying to diagnose anything on symptoms for these cars unless you are sure everything is running how it should. Most of what you might get is heresay and a very roundabout way of fixing things.
