3SGTE 3rd gen (245hp)

Hey guys,
Has anyone  tried running the standard pistons, conrods and bearings in a 3rd gen 245 motor, with a Garrett GT3076 turbo. Boost 0.8 - 1.2 bar....(I think it's a given that the head bolts should be ARP with the Cometic HG)

I am aware that the best is to upgrade to Wiseco's, Eagle Rods and ACL bearings......I was just wondering how much boost/punishment the stock internals can take on the 3rd gen 3SGTE!

Any input/info/feedback would be highly appreciated

Thanks in advance!

Schweet!

It will depend on how well it it tuned. I craked 2 pistons at 20psi with a Trust T67, but the mapping was a bit to agressive for the heat I was in. Was also just using a larger A2A intercooler in the stock location

As soon as you get just a little bit of detonation at the power levels that turbo can put out (on a stock engine) the stock pistons will fail. Keep the tune super safe & rich and it might hold together for a while.

I experienced the same thing as Dasic1. For me at around 230rwkw on the dyno cracked ring lands on 2 pistons. Same bloody turbo too :) It's evil.

Thanks for the info guys. Much appreciated.

I guess I will go ahead with my initial EXPENSIVE but SAFE route...

Yeah that turbo is definitely lots of fun....and it will be more fun for me on the 3rd gen motor....I have it on my 1st gen at the moment with a really bad charge cooler set-up.....so, can't wait....

Has anyone run this set-up and what were the tuning/driving results:

    ARP head bolts
    Cometic HG
    Flown (polished) head
    Wiseco Pistons
    Eagle Rods
    ACL Bearings
    Garrett GT3076 (twinscroll)
    Custom mani
    76mm complete zorst
Charge cooler -(front mount heat exchanger for the C Cooler)
    (Considering water injection)

LSD box with twin plate Cusco or Exedy clutch...

    input/advise???

    Thanks

Having done almost exactly as you're proposing, I wouldn't recommend the twin-scroll unless you're getting a twin scroll manifold (e.g. the Full-Race one).

I have pretty much the same set up as I have now, which I've got conservatively tuned at 250rwkw, with scope for more.

    CP pistons
    Eagle Rods
    1mm Oversize Ferrea valves
    Garrett GT3076R twin scroll turbo @ 21psi
HKS 264 cams with HKS valve springs
    Tial External wastegate
Apex'i Power FC & Commander Tuned by HITMAN
    Berk Technologies Dump pipe
    Hi-Tech Mufflers' 3" Exhaust
    Apex'i Air Pod
    Border Top mount Intercooler
    ARP bolts
    ACL bearings

I've just put a 3071 on a stock gen 2 bottom end, will report back with results soon :-)

    @dylmrt: Thanks for the input....
What difference does the upgrades on your head make to power/performance compared to stock 3rd gen?
Did you also port and polish, and are you using adjustables cam gears (HKS or ?)?

To be honest, I can't quantify it since the entire upgrade was done in one go.

Yes the head was ported and polished. I have fidanza adjustable cam gears.
