3SGE Beams compression

Hi Beams owners,
Have any of you done compression tests on your engines?
I'm trying to find out what a good cylinder compression (in psi) is?
I assume it should be higher than the standard 3SGE (although i don't know what that is either)
I might have to test my current engine later for a reference...

Thanks
Rick

There was a discussion about compression test results on the BEAMS forum very recently Rick. It's here:

Hi Rick.     Don't have anything on the BEAMS but from the 3SGE engine supplement 1996. Standard comp pressure at 250 RPM is 178 PSI or more.    Minimum is 142 PSI.  Difference between cylinders is 14 PSI or less.     As stated by others difference across cylinders is more critical.     Hope this is a bit of a guide. You are a long way from nowhere. Mind the emus . I look forward to seeing the BEAMS in there.      Cheers.

    Thanks for that Falcon.
The seller sent me pics of the compression testing with there gauge. All tests were between 160 - 165 psi.
I thought this might have been a bit low. They only had the plug removed from the cylinder they were testing at the time tho, and it didn't look like the throttle open either. I believe that gauges do vary, and altitude can make a difference too. It was good that all the cylinders are very similar. I'm going to test it with my own gauge when it turns up. Supposedly the engine has only done 50,000 kms...
Yeah, i am a long way from anywhere, this region is full of 4WD's, SUV's and Commodores, so the MR2 stands out a bit!

    Cheers
