Seeking W20 MR2 Purchase Advice

I'm new here, from Perth.
 
A second generation MR2 has always been a dream car of mine, and whenever I see them on the road I get wistful. The thing is nowadays I see them less and less on the road so I feel like now is probably going to be one of my last chances to actually go and get one.
 
I was just wondering if you guys would be able to shed some light on what are some of the things I need to be looking for when buying (aside from the usual when it comes to second hand cars and this guide on toyota owners forum, my issue is that I've never owned a mid-engine or a turbocharged engine car and a friend said that the first major thing likely to go on the MR2's is the turbo because people drive them too hard). Ideally I'd like it as close to stock GT Japanese import as possible and I did want to have it as my daily driver so I'd want it to last a few k's.
