In regards to running a vent to atmo bov on a gen 2, my opinion on this is that it is somewhat okay to do providing you tighten up the bov so that it only opens at higher pressures. So in light throttle / low boost situations the valve won't open.
It will still possibly puff a little black smoke from the tail pipe when it opens.

I think the main problem with a bov on a gen 2 is the situation where you boost, foot off the throttle and clutch in, bov lets the air out, engine returns to idle, then drops below idle and stumbles. I'm pretty sure this is the main annoyance with the atmo bov. Tighten the bov right up and it won't stumble when it gets to idle.

Its been a while since I owned a gen2 with a bov so my memory could be going, anyone care to comment on the above?

firstly thanks purple5ive, the information given by you was helpful.

Im a tad concerned about the wet weather scenarios, how bad exactly is it? because from experience i know that the back off the car kicks out when i turn and give it some gas...

The handling is really not as unforgiving as some people make out. Even in the wet, I've never had any major issues, and thats with the early suspension which is meant to be worse.. Approach it sensibly and you'll be fine. The rear weight bias actually gives you more grip under power.
A BOV will not work very well with the Gen2 with stock management. Atmo venting ones are for **** factor only, not to mention illegal in most areas. If thats a dealbreaker for you, I'd rather you avoid MR2s anyway.
Yes, the stock intercooler placement is not as capable as a big front mount. That's a fact of life for a mid-engined setup. However, there are still several options for supporting higher power, rigt up to crazy levels. I'm just finishing my Water to Air setup right now.
Working on them, somethings are easy and some are hard. Most are hard. Can be so frustrating, but it makes it more fulfilling.

Google the '3SGTE Power Primer'. Gives all the info you need for huge power.
SW20s need a different approach to most Jap Turbos, which is a little more difficult in most cases. But the upside is a more unique car that can be a lot of fun.

My friend ran a BOV vented to atmosphere for a few years on his Gen2, no real issues apart from a bit of black smoke on gear changes.  Otherwise car ran fine.

Re the handling.  Its not as unforgiving as a typical front engine/rear driver, especially if you are not smooth with your inputs, but its not that bad as others have said.  Take it to a track where you can explore its limits and you will learn its behaviour.

They are a great and quite unique car.

Cheers

how dbad depends on who is drivingt. you may think its ok, some guys bhere have never had issues, s0ome have lost it on test drives or just after owning the car, me personally i hate driving this car in the wet partially due to my useless federal super sports even with 245s on the rear im sliding on heavy braking, or cornering so i take it very very easy in wet weather i learn 2 years into owning the car that wet weather and sharp bends plus taking a 90 bend too fast can result in the car very quickly doing almost a 360deg spin.. this has happened a few times in the course of the 6 or so years ive had my car.. believe me  when i say thats the car is not like any normal RWD, its doesnt give enough warning like most rwd's do before the rear end starts to shift and you can guess what happens from there on.
th 180sx is also a very well balanced car, but have a bad name with the cops which is true...

if you want to vent your bov, have cheap aftermarket parts available locally, and want more tuning options (the nissan stock ecu's can be retuned to a certain degree via a pc, the toyota ones are locked from factory and cannot be reprogrammed) bodykits, easy to make power out of (compared to the 3sgte) etc etc then the 180sx would be my pick..
however if you want a drivers car, something that rarer than most imports, not to mention a mid mount and quiet a unique shape then the MR2 is what you want..
good luck with it.
