Difference between rev2 and 3 spark plug leads
I apologize in advance if this is a repost but I searched and couldn't find an answer. I see everywhere that leads are sold as either rev1/2 or rev3 leads but can't find what exactly is different. I have a 92 3sgte and recently my dizzy cap died so I ordered a new one from twosrus and the leads I have wouldn't plug in. They had different connectors. So i was lent a rev3 3sge dizzy and that one works. So I have a rev2 3sgte with rev3 3sge dizzy cap and rev2 3sgte leads.
I'm upgrading the ignition with MSD blaster ss coil and I want to do the leads at the same time.
What leads do I buy? Im finding a lot of rev3 leads but not really any rev2 leads. And if I buy rev2 will I not be able to use my rev3 dizzy cap?
Sooooooo confused!!!

Rev3 has clip on leads to the dizzy cap. If thats the cap you have, then get rev3 leads.

There more of a difference than that,
Ok, so ou can buy leads for an 89-91 these seem to have connectors at one end to lock onto the dizzy then you can buy leads for 91-93 these are a very thinner connector to be pushed into the dizzy, compared to the others, as i had a VERY hard time finding leads for mine, as i wasnt paying 190$ from toyota at cost price for them, so i went aftermarket, eventually went through every single aftermarket set for an mr2 and none would fit! All the connectors were far to FAT to push into my genuine dizzy cap i had just purchased from toyota for my 10/92 Mr2 i almost gave up and ordered the genuine ones, but i tried a set of gt4 leads and hey presto fit perfect! so that solved that problem,
Also, 89-91 have standard style rubber boots on te top of the leads, 91-93 have a rubber loop so they are easy to pull out from the spark plug tubes 93-99 im not sure as ive never had to buy them, but i bet those ones are a thicker style at the dizzy end, where as i think 91-93 had the VERY thin style, so they can be a pain to source aftermarket,
so if anyone else ends up in the same boat, try gt4 leads not sure if there the same resistance etc but it worked for me, but i do think in the back of my head maybe i should just get the genuine leads, and then i know eveything wil be perfect as i just purchased a genuine dizzy cap, rotor button and igntion coil but went aftermarket leads ahaha!
Hope this helps other people aswell!
P.S the leads i have are TOP GUN MAX 300 3SGTE celica GT4 leads in my AUS delievered 10/92 NA

I should also mention my car is a late 92 and came with a few bits and pieces the 93 came with but it's definitely a rev2 engine. Also it's an import 3sgte The issue I had that was different is where they connect This is my old dizzy cap I had on the car and the same as the rev3 dizzy cap I now have And this is the 92 dizzy cap I ordered from twosrus As you can see the inside is slightly different, the new one has a grove at the end and is wider and the old one is just a small hole And this is what my leads look like. They clip in

I see now that the dizzy cap I had has clips and the one from twosrus doesn't so my car must have always had a rev3 dizzy cap. Is there any reason to go with one or the other?

If you change the cap and leads you also have to change the coil. Best to keep it as is.

I'm upgrading to MSD coils soon so probably won't need to thanks for the offer though. I'm trying to figure out how to hook up the coils I'll start up another thread for that it's doing my head in

If you're going seperate coils you wont even need a dizzy cap.

Yeah exactly, but I'm still tossing up the idea that 999 automotive said I should do which is just 1 coil supplying the dizzy, as they said that's all I would need, but I feel if I am gonna do it I may as well throw all 4 coils in there, I just don't know what else I need, and I can't visualize how it will be hooked up so it's confusing me

I had similar issues trying to get replacement aftermarket leads for my car (96 3S-GTE). Got mine thru the Aussie splitfire distributor; my dizzy is the same as your original one.
They sent me the wrong set first, the second set still wasn't right but I modified them slightly to suit. They said that they don't stock the dizzy ends with the clips, but the rubber boots fit snugly on there so they won't come off or let any water etc in.
That reminds me, might put up that first set for sale.
