Dual Stage Boost
Hey Guys, Want your opinion on this dual stage setup, there is a cheapish setup by Powerup as shown in the pics, my question is, can I simply by a MAC vavle and setup up 2 Turbosmart valves like how this is setup in the casing and still work? I just feel more satisfied using the Turbosmart ones instead of some unknown brand bleed valves controlling boost.

What ECU have you got, sorry cant remember?, can you use it to control it? I'll be using mine (haltech) to control my mac valve.

im using an adaptronic selct ecu, the tuner told me he called adaptronic and they cant do it with a high/low boost setting on a switch??

Any reason why you want this instead of an electronic boost controller?

just so the 2 levels are set, and no chance of pressing a few extra buttons to make it go well beyond what I want. Ideally Id like to just use the MAC valve and when its on, boost to be at high boost, eg 22psi, and when turned off just on wastegate pressure, eg 1bar

or is it possible to have the ecu boost control wire come out of the ecu, go into the switch as the +ve (12V), from the 20A connector I would connect that to the +ve of the MAC valve, and earth the Mac valve through the -ve? The third connector on the switch is just a ground, so thats all good... the switch I have is similar to this, just not an ebay one http://www.ebay.com.au/bhp/missile-switch

If you use one of these http://www.turbosmart.com.au/product/in-cabin and fit a MAC solenoid in between the T-piece it comes with and the adjuster unit itself. That way you can activate/open the solenoid which will switch the system over to the boost controller or close the solenoid to be operating on wastegate pressure. With the regular boost tee there is no way to fit a solenoid into the system. The in cabin one is basically the regular boost tee split into two separate parts.

See diagram below for my idea. I think it will do what you are asking for. One setting is wastegate spring pressure. The other is adjustable pressure.

yeah awsome thanks, ill speak to the tuner about this, is it possible to use the normal turbosmart bleed valve instead you think? of have to be an in cabin one?

You wouldn't be able to fit a solenoid using a regular boost tee as the t-piece, vent and bleed valve are combined into a single unit.

I rigged up a similar setup, using a solenoid and a ball/spring boost controller. Boost source from the turbo goes to the solenoid, which can switch between two outlets. One side is straight through, the other goes through the adjustable boost controller, and they both join up to a T piece before the wastegate. With no power to the solenoid, the wastegate sees normal pressure and acts like stock. Switch power on, and it has to go through the boost controller first so you can raise it to whatever you want. Works surprisingly well, and was under $100. Only issue is the slightly complicated plumbing means the 'low' boost is closer to 9psi, than the 7psi it should be (and was before). But its very consistent on both settings.

ok I have been thinking again... Will/should this work? it does in my head... use a relay so, http://www.narva.com.au/products/browse/relays from the switch the +ve to pin 86 on relay pin 85 to earth pin 30 to the PWM digital output from the ecu pin 87 to go to the MAC valve +ve then earth the MAC valve -ve so that way there will only be power going to it when the switch is on, and then should mean that when the switch is off, it only uses wastegate pressure??? am I correct in saying all that? and what relay would be best to get if it will work?

I'm not sure you'd even need a relay. The solenoid won't draw much current, should check how much the ECU can handle and you can probably run it direct.
