Nothing is impossible, I have never heard of it being done.
SUPERCAPITALSMANDALAY Has supercharged a red top beams with some success. Everything is 'perfect' on his car. A lot of attention to detail.

anything is possible, but requires custom fabrication. also with stock pistons only low boost or very good engine management

Not worth it when you can just bolt in a 3SGTE. Would be much cheaper overall.

Yeah unless you have a BEAMS engine already I'd prob go 3SGTE, speaking of which, Road and Track is selling a gen 4 quite urgently

HALF the cost is just for the supercharger unit alone. With MANDALAY he did a lot of the fab work himself, which would have saved **** loads. If you pay someone to do it and tuning etc it would be closer to 10k+ in reality. Nothing beats the 3sgte though for bang for buck. Turbos are relatively easy to get more power out of as well in the future. I guess some people want to be different/unique, which I can understand but for me it seems silly to blow lots of cash on an old car.

I struggled with this concept for about a year. Got everything ready and sorted for a rebuild then sold it before I went down a very windy path with alot of hurdles. Financially speaking, yes it is cheaper to buy and build and MR2 to a decent power level and you'll have a kickass, uncommon, sexy beast of a car over buying a new car like I'm about to do...but that money will never come back. If you can accept that fact - by all means, go for it. Otherwise your stuck in the same predicament I was in.

Money in any car will never come back, unless its a collectable classic. New or old. Its just the cost to heavily modify an older cheaper car is a much greater percentage of the purchase price then a newer more expensive car. 20k into an MR2 or 20K into an evo, you'll see about the same return on that 'investment'.
Personally, I probably have over 100K in the MR2. I gave up counting long ago, however, I suspect thats all about to come to an end soon. I think I'd be lucky to see 25-30k of part value if I sold up.

I guess doing your own work is some kind of consolation but think about the time you could have spent on other things. But I think you did the right thing in the end though and I agree completely about the windy bumpy path in the 'power journey'. For me, I don't want to have my car in a workshop for months or even years, **** that I want to enjoy my car everyday... and I do! Bikes are faster, cheaper, more fun and use much less petrol :D

And there are far less entertaining ways of losing money on a car, if you'd been wealthy enough to buy a Merc SLS last year you could have sat it in your garage and watched it depreciate at over $200 per day... I'd hate to count how much I've spent and have/will fail/ed to recover on my doorstops. Back vaguely on topic, superchargers are cool, but expensive if you have to do a unique configuration. HKS did a 4A "twincharge" kit, something similar on a 3S would be pretty special (in many connotations of that word)
